Position Summary

Registered Nurse (RN) – Patient Care Unit (PCU). Full‑time position at Christus Health, Texarkana, TX.

Responsibilities
  • Provides routine and complex care, developing long‑range goals or plans.
  • Continuously develops the ability to cope with and manage contingencies of clinical nursing.
  • Delegates tasks appropriately to help manage the clinical situation.
  • Meets expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
  • Provides nursing care using the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, evaluation) in accordance with ANA Scope and Standards of Practice.
  • Addresses increasingly complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families.
  • Administers medications and treatments following protocol; monitors for side‑effects and effectiveness.
  • Documents patient history, symptoms, medication, and care provided.
  • Assesses learning needs and provides education to patients, family members, and caregivers; identifies issues and resources.
Qualifications
  • BSN preferred; a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a related nursing specialty preferred.
  • BLS required; must be current.
  • RN license in state of employment or compact.
  • Current ACLS certification required.
Orientation & Development
  • All new RNs attend New Nurses Orientation within the first 30 days of hire.
  • New hires are precepted by a designated staff member and must complete initial competency validation.
  • Newly licensed RNs may participate in a residency program or other specific orientation.
  • Annual competency verification is required.
Required Certifications & Timelines
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – no grace period; must be current.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – within 30 days of hire.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – within 30 days of hire.
  • Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum (TNCC) – within 60 days of hire.
  • Trauma Care After Resuscitation (TCAR) – within 60 days of hire.
