Job Title: Structural Steel Estimating Trainee
Compensation: $50,000-$65,000
Location: Rochester, NY 


Position Overview:
Ramar Steel, a family-owned business dedicated to quality and community, is seeking a motivated individual to join our team as a Structural Steel Estimator. This position offers the opportunity to learn and grow in the structural steel estimating field with hands-on training from our experienced estimating team. The ideal candidate will be eager to learn, possess a strong work ethic, and have the drive to succeed in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities:

Training & Learning

  • No structural steel experience is needed.
  • Learn to interpret architectural and structural contract drawings, estimate specifications, and bid forms.
  • Learn to enter data for structural steel material estimates and assist with Ramar proposal letters.

Bid Documentation & Deadline Management

  • Prepare bid forms, bid bonds, and performance bonds as required.
  • Ensure timely completion of estimates, meeting stringent deadlines.
  • Review finalized estimate proposal letters for accuracy and completeness.

Stakeholder Communication & Project Coordination

  • Attend in-house estimating scheduling meetings to ensure alignment across teams.
  • Communicate with customers, general contractors, and other stakeholders about potential and ongoing projects.
  • Assist with negotiating bids with project owners.
  • Review labor estimates with owners to ensure accuracy for both shop and field labor.

Project & Contract Review

  • Review contract documents to understand project scope and deliverables.
  • Stay informed of any project changes by reviewing addenda, construction bulletins, RFPs, or other change documents.
  • Attend pre-bid project meetings or site walk-throughs to gather project details.

General Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide support to the estimating team as needed, learning the intricacies of the structural steel estimating process.
  • Develop and maintain a high attention to detail, focusing on quality and accuracy in all tasks.
  • Take responsibility for accurate data entry and documentation related to estimates.
