This position reports to:
Chapter Lead
In this role, you will have the opportunity to contribute to ABB's success with technology, software, product, and system development. Each day, you will identify and implement innovative solutions to relevant problems. You will also showcase your expertise by providing ideas and by being able to work both independently and as a part of a Research & Development (R&D) team.
The work model for the role is: Hybrid
This role is contributing to the Panelboards chapter, primarily supporting the Develop & Care Power Panels Agile Team in Bloomfield, CT.
You will be mainly accountable for:
  • Design, development, and manufacturing implementation of engineering programs that meet business standards and program / product requirements, including functional, cost, reliability, manufacturability, and safety requirements.
  • Understanding and applying relevant processes, standards, guidelines, and requirements, including architectural and design constraints.
  • Execute designs with solid modeling software (PTC Creo / Windchill) to create models, assemblies, detailed drawings, and BOMs for designs which may include plastic, stamped metal, and electrically conductive parts.
  • Lead and support R&D projects, from ideation through manufacturing implementation, driving the achievement of assigned targets (quality, time, scope, cost) and raising and managing risks.
  • Contributing to the continuous improvement of the chapter, including to the improvement or development of new capabilities, skills, technical knowledge, performance, and/or culture.

You will join a dynamic, collaborative team of engineers, where you will be able to thrive, learning & growing while contributing to the business by developing safe, quality new products.
Job Qualifications:
  • BS Mechanical Engineering or similar educational background
  • 3+ years of experience in R&D or a related field
  • You have experience in mechanical design (including 3D modeling and 2D drawing creation using PTC Creo or similar tools) and engineering analysis
  • Experience in electromechanical design & testing of, and certification standards for, electrical components or equipment (e.g., Panelboards, switchboards, circuit breakers) is preferred
  • Experience supporting New Product Introductions (NPI) within a manufacturing environment is preferred
  • You are at ease communicating in English
  • Able to travel domestically & internationally on an occasional basis
  • You have valid US work authorization and must not require sponsorship for an employment visa by ABB at any time in the future
