Description
Under the supervision of the Director of Nursing, the Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for overseeing the daily nursing operations of an assigned unit or area. The RN supervises Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) and other assigned staff, ensures the delivery of quality resident care, and administers nursing services in accordance with physician orders, established nursing standards of practice, and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Supervise professional and non-professional staff in the day-to-day delivery of resident care; schedule assignments and establish nursing unit priorities; orient new staff and participate in the recruitment and selection of nursing personnel; communicate policies and procedures; provide coaching and support as needed; monitor work performance, provide feedback, and administer corrective action when appropriate.
  • Prepare and review medical records and nurses' notes; assess residents' physical and emotional status; monitor resident activity; provide nursing care in accordance with physician orders, individualized care plans, established standards of practice, and facility policies; coordinate and assist with admissions, transfers, and discharges; transcribe physician telephone orders; communicate resident status changes to residents, family members, interdisciplinary team members, and management.
  • Prepare and administer medications and treatments as prescribed by the physician in accordance with nursing standards and facility policies; ensure all charting and documentation are accurately completed, signed, and dated per established procedures.
  • Understand, comply with, and promote all policies regarding residents' rights.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and ongoing review of individualized written care plans.
  • Participate in in-service training programs; assist with orientation and job skills training; maintain professional competency through continuing education.
  • Monitor the work environment and nursing practices to ensure compliance with safety, fire, disaster preparedness, infection control, and other departmental policies and procedures; maintain cleanliness and safety of work and treatment areas.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements
  • Must be a Registered Nurse (RN) in good standing and currently licensed by the state.
  • Must be able to supervise other employees and work cooperatively to obtain resident care objectives.
  • Must be able to interact positively with residents, families, and regulatory agencies, and work collaboratively with employees at all levels.
  • Must be able to maintain consistent attendance and be willing to work long or irregular hours, often under pressure.

Physical Requirements:
  • Must comply with all local health regulations and successfully complete a post-offer health assessment.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Physical and Sensory Requirements (with or without the use of mechanical devices):
  • Ability to read, write, and speak fluent English to communicate effectively with residents, families, staff, and community agencies.
  • Ability to perform physical activities such as walking, reaching, bending, stretching, pulling, and lifting.
  • Adequate fine and gross motor coordination to carry out required tasks.
