Job Summary and Qualifications

"What I love about being a Medical Surgical nurse is the diversity of things you see on a daily basis - you're always learning something new every day. The people around me are very supportive - from the Charge Nurses to my coworkers, up to management – everybody makes me feel valued and supported. It's definitely a good learning environment, especially just coming out of nursing school. This is my first nursing job and I can say that I've really learned and grown a lot."

- Nixie Pascual, Medical Surgical RN at HCA Healthcare

Medical Surgical is the field for you if you are most passionate about developing comprehensive, holistic medical judgement in your patients. You will care for patients with moderate-acuity who are facing a wide range of conditions, often multiple at the same time – such as cardiac disease with kidney failure. This simultaneous diversity allows you to evaluate your patients’ complete medical picture when making critical decisions, deepen your understanding of various medical conditions and treatments, recognize key symptoms and their implications, comprehend medication interactions, and determine when you should intervene. Nurses rave about the highly interactive nature of many Medical Surgical patients. With their exceptional medical expertise, Medical Surgical nurses are highly sought after by hiring managers across various specialties, from women’s and children’s services to surgical and critical care, propelling you from here to anywhere.

What you will do in this role:
  • Coordinate and deliver high quality, patient-centered care in accordance with the nature and specific requirements of the Medical Surgical department
  • In collaboration with medical providers and other members of the care team, you will provide individualized, comprehensive, and compassionate care using established nursing models such as “Assess, Perform, Teach, and Manage.”
  • You will serve as an advocate for patients, families and caregivers and share in our organizational commitment to support an unparalleled patient experience and clinical outcomes
What qualifications you will need:
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
  • (GN) Graduate/Provisional Nurse, or (RN) Registered Nurse, or Associate Degree, or Bachelors Degree
