What is a new grad developer?

New Grad Developers are recent graduates who have completed a degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field and are beginning their careers in software development. They typically have foundational knowledge of programming languages, algorithms, and development tools, but may have limited professional experience. New Grad Developers are usually hired for entry-level positions where they can further develop their skills, receive mentorship, and gain practical experience working on real-world software projects.

What types of projects does a new grad developer typically work on during their first year, and how are assignments structured to support learning and growth?

New Grad Developers often start by contributing to well-defined features or bug fixes within existing projects, allowing them to familiarize themselves with the codebase and development processes. Assignments are generally structured with mentorship and regular check-ins, providing guidance while encouraging independence. Over time, responsibilities expand to include more complex tasks and collaboration across teams, offering exposure to different technologies and workflows. This approach helps new grads build confidence, technical skills, and strong professional relationships.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a new grad developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a New Grad Developer, you need a strong grasp of programming fundamentals, problem-solving abilities, and a relevant degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, integrated development environments (IDEs), and exposure to modern programming languages such as Python, Java, or JavaScript is typical. Curiosity, adaptability, and teamwork are crucial soft skills that help you learn quickly and collaborate effectively. These skills are vital for delivering quality code, integrating smoothly into development teams, and growing rapidly in a dynamic tech environment.

  • Help implement and iterate on multi-agent coordination workflows supporting cross-functional teams
  • Write clean, maintainable code to build LLM-powered systems using tools such as OpenAI and Anthropic
  • Integrate systems with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions) and support infrastructure-as-code initiatives
  • Build and improve observability systems, including logging, telemetry, and failure handling for AI workflows
  • Develop and refine evaluation frameworks for LLM outputs, including automated testing and regression detection
  • Participate in human-in-the-loop processes to ensure quality and reliability of AI-generated outputs
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, data science, and product teams
  • Stay current with emerging AI models, agent frameworks, and developer tools, sharing insights with the team

  • Strong programming fundamentals in at least one of: Java, Kotlin, or Python
  • Familiarity with software development practices including Git, code reviews, debugging, and testing
  • Demonstrated curiosity about AI and language models through coursework, projects, or independent exploration
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset in fast-moving, ambiguous environments

Nice to Have

  • Experience working with LLM APIs (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic), including prompt engineering or tool use
  • Exposure to NLP, machine learning, or language model research through academic or project work
  • Familiarity with agent orchestration frameworks such as LangGraph, CrewAI, or Autogen
  • Experience with AI-native developer tools such as Cursor, Codex, or Claude Code
  • Basic knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, GCP) or containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Contributions to open-source projects, research publications, or standout academic projects

What Makes This Job Amazing

  • Opportunity to work on cutting-edge agentic AI systems with real-world impact across a growing organization
  • High ownership and autonomy from day one, with mentorship from experienced engineers
  • Exposure to cross-functional problems spanning product, marketing, and business operations
  • A fast-paced, learning-driven environment where your ideas and curiosity are valued

What You'll Earn and Enjoy

  • Pay that reflects your impact. Compensation benchmarked to the market and shaped by your impact and value.
  • Investment in your future.ย A 401(k) with company match to help you build long-term financial security.
