We're determined to make a difference and are proud to be an insurance company that goes well beyond coverages and policies. Working here means having every opportunity to achieve your goals - and to help others accomplish theirs, too. Join our team as we help shape the future.

The Actuarial Engineering/Data Management Department's Global Specialty team is seeking a skilled Lead Data Engineer with a proven track record. The ideal candidate will use deep technical expertise and strong communication skills to deliver new initiatives while providing ongoing maintenance and support.

To excel in this role, you must be proficient in writing complex SQL transformations. You should also have experience in data analysis, requirements gathering, data modeling, and process design, with the ability to document and communicate technical details to business partners with varying levels of technical expertise.

This role will have a Hybrid work schedule, with the expectation of working in an office location (Hartford, CT; Chicago, IL; Columbus, OH; and Charlotte, NC) 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Support the legacy on-premises Oracle PL/SQL application until it is successfully migrated to the AWS Snowflake platform.
  • Lead the migration of the legacy system to Snowflake, including application design, data modeling, process flows, source-to-target mapping, coordination with external teams, code development, developer leadership, and results validation.
  • Ensure the new Snowflake application is designed for long-term maintainability and enhancement, with a clear code base that supports effective communication with business users.
  • Support the new Snowflake application and document support procedures.
  • Coordinate activities with cross-functional IT stakeholders.
  • Research and evaluate alternative solutions and recommend the most efficient and cost-effective approach for system design.
  • Translate business problems into logical solution designs, then develop, test, and implement efficient, cost-effective application solutions by writing new code, reusing existing code, or integrating purchased solutions.
  • Prepare charts, tables, and diagrams to support problem analysis using appropriate business, scientific, engineering, and mathematical techniques. Analyze existing systems and programming logic to improve operations, identify issues, and revise logic or procedures as needed.
  • Foster a positive work environment by modeling cultural values and encouraging collaboration, accountability, diversity, and continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications:

  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship. The company will not support the STEM OPT I-983 Training Plan endorsement for this position.

  • Solid data warehouse knowledge in insurance, financial services, or a related domain.
  • Knowledge of data modeling and familiarity with dimensional database structures.
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills.
  • Proven ability to organize and manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Excellent facilitation, requirements elicitation, and data analysis skills.
  • Experience mentoring and leading other Data Engineers.
  • Continuous learning mindset: must be comfortable learning new languages, platforms and approaches as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:
