Job description

Job Description:
At Chewy, it is our mission to become the most trusted and convenient online destination for pet parents and our partners vets and service providers alike. Our success is measured by the happiness of the people and pets we serve, not simply by the amount of pet supplies we deliver. That's why we continue to think of outside-the-Chewy-box ways to delight, surprise, and thank pet lovers who are dedicated to us!
Chewy is seeking a Database Engineer II to join the PREF Analytics team and serve as the technical owner of the team's cloud data platform and infrastructure. This role will be responsible for designing, deploying, and maintaining scalable AWS-based data solutions that support forecasting, replenishment, procurement, and planning initiatives across the PREF org.
The ideal candidate will bring strong experience in cloud infrastructure, database engineering, workflow orchestration, and data platform automation. This role will lead the migration of analytical models to AWS while establishing reliable, production-ready engineering frameworks that enable scalable data processing and analytics.
What You'll Do
  • Design, deploy, and manage AWS infrastructure supporting analytical applications and data platforms.
  • Build, maintain, and optimize scalable data pipelines using Python, SQL, dbt, and Snowflake.
  • Develop, schedule, monitor, and troubleshoot Apache Airflow workflows for production data pipelines.
  • Administer and support Snowflake, Oracle, AWS, and Gatekeeper environments, ensuring platform reliability and performance.
  • Build and maintain dbt models, testing frameworks, and deployment processes to support trusted analytical datasets.
  • Configure and manage production job scheduling, orchestration, monitoring, alerting, and recovery processes.
  • Establish engineering best practices for data pipelines, workflow scheduling, and infrastructure management.
  • Partner with analysts and program managers to productionize analytical models and automate manual business processes.
  • Optimize database performance, troubleshoot production issues, and ensure high availability of critical data assets.
  • Develop reusable engineering frameworks that improve scalability, maintainability, and operational efficiency.

What You'll Need
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 4+ years of experience in database engineering, cloud infrastructure, or data engineering.
  • Strong experience with AWS services (S3, SageMaker, Airflow, Secrets Manager, and networking concepts).
  • Experience developing and maintaining Apache Airflow DAGs and production scheduling environments.
  • Hands-on experience with dbt, including model development, testing, documentation, and deployment.
  • Advanced SQL and Python development skills.
  • Experience supporting Snowflake and Oracle databases in production environments.
  • Experience building ETL/ELT pipelines and production-grade data architectures.
  • Familiarity with Git, CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation, and DevOps practices.
  • Strong troubleshooting, performance tuning, and production support experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting supply chain, forecasting, replenishment, procurement, or planning systems.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or CloudFormation).
  • Experience supporting enterprise scheduling and orchestration platforms.
  • Knowledge of Agile software development methodologies.
  • Experience modernizing legacy applications into cloud-native architectures.

The base salary range for this role is $102,500 - $189,000.00.
  • The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to the candidate's relevant experience, education, and work location. In addition, this position is eligible for 401k and a new hire and annual equity grant. C08+ positions may also be eligible for annual bonus.
