Job Description

This is a hybrid role.. they need to be both technical (be able to build complex logic into existing report code) and strong analysis skills.. A BA won't be technical enough.. Some additional details are below.

They key and primary skillset/expertise we are seeking is that of a data analyst who is proven to be a highly skilled analyst in a complex data environment, preferably in the healthcare payer warehouse space.

The initial work will be redirecting existing BI reports to multiple existing and new data sources that are disparate and complex; we anticipate a great deal of analysis and profiling will need to occur, and a substantial amount of logic will need to be built into the report code, due to the introduction of new data sources that will have minimal logic built in.

As part of a major project within BCBSMN, this role is part of a work unit accountable for redirecting various existing BI Reports and/or Data Submissions and Assets (i.e. Data Views) to new data sources. This work involves highly complex analysis between the existing and new data sources which have multiple differences/grains. Work 'may' also include analysis of/rewriting Semantic Data Views to point to new data sources. The primary and key function is data analysis.

Accountabilities:

  • Directly and primarily responsible for highly complex and detailed healthcare data analysis between disparate sources, data profiling, and creating detailed source-to-target data mapping for redirecting/rewriting BI Reporting, including determining and applying necessary business, data quality and transformation rules; ensuring BI report rewrites using new and/or disparate data sources are minimally disrupted and satisfy business needs. In most cases, additional substantial complex logic will need to be built into the reports.
  • Point person for gathering and documenting detailed business and technical requirements; scheduling and leading discussions with business including requirements gathering, reviewing profiling results, approvals, BAT coordination and support
  • Accountable for contributing business definitions to metadata documentation
  • The BI Lead/Data Analyst is typically expected to also act as the lead for the work unit; ability to lead and motivate as well as assist in supporting/driving results (this is in addition to the primary responsibility of detailed analysis as noted above);
  • May also be responsible for analyzing and modifying existing and/or creating new semantic data views used by business users directly or as a source for reports.
Qualifications

Base Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field and minimum of 6 years of experience related to the accountabilities outlined above
  • Proven history of performing high quality analysis/output/results within a fast-paced, complex healthcare setting
  • Proficiency in writing solid, efficient SQL to perform complex functions
  • Extensive experience in a data warehouse environment / data warehouse projects, primarily in complex data analysis to support complex reporting
  • Solid experience/solid performance in working with complex healthcare data (including multiple data domains)

  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to design, evaluate and interpret complex data solutions
  • Demonstrated excellence in oral, written and presentation skills; ability to speak to both business and technical audiences effectively
  • Proven to be successful in a fast-paced project execution environment
  • Must be proactive; self-starter with history of ability to contribute and be productive very quickly following onboarding

Preferred/Added Value Qualifications:

Exposure/familiarity/experience with SAS; or experienced/expert in a BI data analyst role that also provided development solution in SAS in a healthcare payer organization
