How much do neuroimaging data analyst jobs pay per year?
What is a neuroimaging data analyst?
A Neuroimaging Data Analyst processes, analyzes, and interprets brain imaging data from techniques like MRI, fMRI, and PET. They develop and apply computational methods to extract meaningful insights from neuroimaging studies, often working with neuroscientists, clinicians, and researchers. Their role involves scripting, statistical analysis, and data visualization to support research on brain function, structure, and disorders. Proficiency in programming languages like Python, MATLAB, or R, as well as experience with neuroimaging software (e.g., FSL, SPM, AFNI), is typically required.
What does a neuroimaging data analyst do?
A typical day for a Neuroimaging Data Analyst involves preprocessing raw neuroimaging data, running analyses using specialized software, and collaborating with researchers to interpret and visualize results. You might spend part of your day writing scripts, troubleshooting data quality issues, or attending meetings to discuss research project goals and timelines. The role often includes maintaining detailed documentation of data workflows and ensuring all processes align with established scientific and ethical standards. Regular interaction with neuroscientists, clinicians, and other data specialists is common, making teamwork and communication vital aspects of daily work.
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a neuroimaging data analyst?
To thrive as a Neuroimaging Data Analyst, you need a solid background in neuroscience, statistics, and data science, often supported by a relevant degree in neuroscience, biomedical engineering, or a related field. Expertise with neuroimaging software (such as SPM, FSL, or AFNI), programming languages like Python or MATLAB, and familiarity with MRI, fMRI, or PET data formats are typically required. Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate complex findings clearly are valuable soft skills for this role. These competencies are essential for accurately processing and interpreting neuroimaging data, supporting impactful research, and facilitating collaboration within multidisciplinary research teams.

Job description
Faculty Position in Neuroimaging Computational Science Available
The Neurodevelopmental Disorders Prevention Center and the Perinatal Institute at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC) are seeking to hire a highly motivated and well-trained neuroimaging and computational neuroscientist with skills in multimodal image acquisition/processing, computational modelling, machine learning, and/or multimodal data mapping. We are particularly interested in researchers who are already working to enable early diagnosis, prognosis, and/or interventions in neurological and mental health disorders in newborns, infants, and children. The joint appointment will be at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or full Professor, depending on the credentials of the candidate, within the Departments of Pediatrics and Radiology. The successful candidate will also be appointed membership within the Neurodevelopmental Disorders Prevention Center, the Perinatal Institute, and Imaging Research Center.
Fall 2023 CCHMC has installed a first of its kind 3T neonatal MRI scanner (Philips) with outstanding gradient performance (80 mT/m @ 200 T/m/s simultaneously) that will enable high-resolution, multiband, whole-body imaging acquisition in high-risk newborns and infants. The scanner will be housed in our new 90-bed level IV neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), thus permitting state-of-the-art neuroimaging in critically ill infants, and expanding the scope of inquiry in neurological and mental health conditions. The Perinatal Institute provides care to all high-risk newborns within the Greater Cincinnati region thus enabling population-based cohort studies, such as the Cincinnati Infant Neurodevelopment Early Prediction Study (CINEPS). CINEPS has prospectively collected a rich database of perinatal clinical data and performed structural, diffusion, metabolic, and functional MRI at termequivalent age in 545 very preterm infants on the same 3T MRI scanner. Additionally, all infants are being followed longitudinally to school age to comprehensively assess neurodevelopmental outcomes. The successful candidate will benefit from rich sources of data such as this one and others (e.g., fetal MRI, imaging datasets of substanceexposed infants, and the upcoming HEALthy Brain and Child Development study) and with the established infrastructure of physical resources (multiple high-resolution research MRI scanners, MEG, etc.) and multidisciplinary, established collaborations between Neonatology, Radiology, Behavioral Medicine, Biostatistics & Epidemiology, Communication Sciences Research Center, Neonatal Research Network, Bronchopulmonary
Dysplasia Center, Fetal Care Center, Pediatric Neurology, Mind-Brain Behavior Initiative, Communication Sciences, Neurosurgery, Neuroscience, Computer Science, Rehab Medicine, and Bioinformatics. All CCHMC faculty have an affiliated appointment within the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.
