What is neural signal processing?

Neural signal processing is the analysis and interpretation of electrical signals generated by neurons in the brain or nervous system. This field combines neuroscience, engineering, and computer science to develop methods and algorithms that can decode, filter, and make sense of complex neural data. Applications include brain-computer interfaces, medical diagnostics, and research into how the brain functions. Neural signal processing is critical for advancing our understanding of neural circuits and developing new treatments for neurological disorders.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a neural signal processing specialist?

To thrive in Neural Signal Processing, you need a solid background in neuroscience, signal processing, and programming, often supported by an advanced degree in biomedical engineering, neuroscience, or related fields. Familiarity with tools like MATLAB, Python, EEG/MEG analysis software, and machine learning frameworks is typically required. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication skills help you interpret complex data and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams. These skills ensure accurate data analysis, advancement of brain-computer interfaces, and successful contributions to neuroscience research.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in neural signal processing roles, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in neural signal processing often face challenges such as managing noisy or artifact-laden data, ensuring real-time processing capabilities, and integrating signals from multiple modalities (e.g., EEG, fMRI). Addressing these challenges typically involves staying updated on advanced filtering techniques, collaborating closely with neuroscientists and engineers, and leveraging robust software tools for data analysis. Continuous learning and teamwork are essential, as projects often require interdisciplinary cooperation and adaptation to evolving research protocols.

Job description

Program Manager – SAR Data Exploitation

We are seeking a Program Manager to lead the development of next-generation automated target recognition software for both moving and stationary objects in Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data. This individual will manage a cross-functional team of radar subject matter experts and machine learning engineers.

The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in physics and/or electrical engineering, with the ability to understand the phenomenology of SAR imagery for both moving and stationary objects. They should also have hands-on experience with deep neural networks and the ability to communicate effectively with executives, stakeholders, and technical teams alike.

The role requires adaptability and the ability to switch seamlessly among leadership, technical, communication, and relationship-building responsibilities. For example, the Program Manager must be able to draft clear, concise, and technically rigorous proposals for new opportunities.

This is a high-visibility position with significant responsibility and a direct impact on projects of national importance. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong track record of leading engineering teams to deliver high-quality solutions on time, within budget, and in alignment with stakeholder technical performance objectives.

Required Qualifications
  • U.S. citizenship with an active TS or TS/SCI clearance

  • Familiarity with SAR phenomenology and signal processing

  • Proven executive-level communication skills, including the ability to create compelling written and visual technical content for both external stakeholders and internal leadership

  • Demonstrated ability to write technical proposals and support business development efforts

  • Experience mentoring technical staff, providing feedback, and managing performance evaluations

  • Ability to build productive relationships with partners and independently resolve complex technical and business challenges

  • Experience creating physics simulations of sensor phenomenologies and developing methods to reconcile simulated vs. real-world data

Experience
  • At least 3 years leading engineering teams (preferred)

Compensation & Benefits
  • Salary range: $200,000 – $270,000

  • Comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, vision, and paid time off

Location
  • On-site role in El Segundo, CA
