What is neural rendering?

Neural rendering is a cutting-edge technique in computer graphics and artificial intelligence that uses neural networks to generate, manipulate, or enhance images and videos, often producing photorealistic or novel visual content. Unlike traditional rendering methods, which rely heavily on physical modeling and computational geometry, neural rendering leverages deep learning algorithms to synthesize visual data from inputs like 3D models, images, or text descriptions. This technology is used in applications such as virtual reality, gaming, special effects, and creating digital avatars. Neural rendering can significantly reduce the computational cost and time needed for high-quality image synthesis, making it a transformative tool in visual computing industries.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a neural rendering engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Neural Rendering Engineer, you need a strong background in computer graphics, deep learning, and mathematics, generally with a degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field. Experience with frameworks like PyTorch or TensorFlow, GPU programming (CUDA), and familiarity with 3D rendering engines is highly valuable. Strong problem-solving skills, creativity, and effective teamwork set exceptional candidates apart in this role. These competencies are crucial for developing innovative rendering solutions that bridge artificial intelligence and visual computing, enabling breakthroughs in graphics technology.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in neural rendering, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in Neural Rendering often encounter challenges related to computational resource demands and the integration of novel algorithms into existing graphics pipelines. Handling large datasets and optimizing neural network architectures for real-time performance can also be complex. Collaboration with cross-functional teams—such as graphics engineers, researchers, and product managers—is essential to ensure solutions are both technically feasible and aligned with project goals. Staying updated with the latest research and leveraging open-source frameworks can help address these challenges effectively.

What is the difference between Neural Rendering vs 3D Graphics Programmer?

Job description

We are seeking a highly skilled Mobile Engineer to join our early‑stage team full‑time. You will help ensure that complex 3D environments and multimodal AI capabilities feel seamless, responsive, and intuitive on mobile devices.

You will play a foundational role in building the mobile applications that bring our spatial computing platform to life on iOS and Android devices. This is a high‑impact role where you will work across the full stack of mobile development—from UI/UX implementation and integration with backend AI systems.

About Schemata

At Schemata, we are transforming the$400B virtual‑training and simulation market by fusing 3D computer vision, neural rendering and large multimodal models inside highly regulated industries. Our platform delivers photorealistic, intelligent 3D experiences, demanding robust spatial reasoning, high‑performance data pipelines and seamless integration between traditional graphics and AI‑driven perception.

Core Responsibilities
  • Design and build high-performance mobile applications using React Native that deliver real‑time 3D simulation and training experiences.
  • Connect mobile clients to production systems including streamed assets, progressive loading, live state updates, and backend APIs
  • Handle the end-to-end deployment lifecycle of mobile applications across development, staging, and production environments, including TestFlight, mobile device management (MDM), App Store, and enterprise distribution.
  • Build component systems to support consistent spatial and AI‑driven experiences across mobile products.
  • Translate product requirements into polished, production‑ready mobile interfaces with strong interaction design and technical execution.
  • Partner closely with product, ML, and graphics engineers to ship mission‑critical features that combine real‑time rendering, AI, and mobile interaction.
  • 3+ years of experience shipping production mobile applications on iOS and/or Android.
  • Strong experience with React Native or similar cross‑platform mobile frameworks.
  • Strong product and interaction sensibility, with a track record of shipping polished, user‑facing mobile experiences.
  • Strong understanding of mobile performance constraints, including memory management, battery usage, frame rate stability, and network latency.
  • Experience owning a mobile product surface over time, iterating beyond initial release based on real‑world feedback.
  • Fluency with AI‑assisted development tools as a productivity multiplier, while maintaining strong engineering judgment and code quality.
  • A portfolio, GitHub, or shipped apps demonstrating strong mobile engineering craft.
Nice to Have
  • Hands‑on experience integrating or working with 3D systems (e.g., Unity, Unreal, ARKit, ARCore, or GPU‑accelerated rendering pipelines).
  • Experience developing offline‑first architectures and synchronization mechanisms for edge devices in low‑connectivity environments.
  • Design tool proficiency (Figma or comparable), or a history of collaborating tightly with designers on complex interactive tools.
  • Backend comfort — enough Python or Node to stand up the API your frontend needs without waiting on anyone.
  • Defense, aerospace, energy or other regulated‑industry experience; active or ability to obtain U.S. security clearance.
Why Join Us?
  • Build mobile experiences powering next‑generation spatial intelligence and simulation systems.
  • Work on hard problems at the intersection of real‑time 3D rendering, AI, and mobile systems.
  • Own core product surfaces from early design through production at a fast‑moving startup.
  • Collaborate with world‑class engineers and researchers in a high‑ownership environment.
  • Competitive upside, meaningful equity, top‑tier benefits and whatever gear you need to excel, with an in‑person culture in SanFrancisco and flexibility for the right fit.
