Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Network Administrator I is an onsite position (non-remote) which provides planning, design, execution, and support for complex network enterprise architecture and technologies for the college. Ensuring that secure, scalable, and robust network services are readily available for students, faculty, staff, vendors, and guests. In addition, the Network Administrator I assists the Director of Infrastructure and Networking with the annual fiscal budget planning for the networking area.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Researches and plans for campus LAN/WAN/WLAN, datacenter, remote, disaster recovery, cloud networking technology advancements, including network security mechanisms.
  2. Develops strategies to align technology advancements with network device capabilities and/or enhancements that adheres to industry standards and facilitate a scalable roadmap the college core networking infrastructure.
  3. Plans and develops strategies to campus LAN/WAN and remote (VPN) networking infrastructure, aligning industry standards and technology roadmaps.
  4. Leads and supervises the integration of network device enhancements, coordinating faulty device replacement.
  5. Maintains hardware operability and analyses and distributes vendor recommended code and software versions, mitigating any security threat vulnerabilities.
  6. Plans and develops strategies to integrate enterprise firewall distribution points at designated network segments; plans and develops on-premise, remote, and cloud network infrastructure strategies; designs, plans, and executes strategies to optimize the resiliency of wireless network services.
  7. Maintains and distributes VPN client packages and composes appropriate security policies for approved users, ensuring that secure remote network connectivity services are provided to all users.
  8. Coordinate with external parties as necessary to establish external/ISP connectivity and alternate paths to maintain resilience.
  9. Monitors and analyses bandwidth and throughput utilization to plan network capacity.
  10. Executes controls to provide optimal services for college users from distributed enterprise networking infrastructure; develops, maintains, and executes security policies firewall distribution points.
  11. Manages user accounts, creates, updates, and deletes extensions profiles for faculty and staff in the VOIP system.
  12. Sets up IP desk phones, softphones, and analog telephone adapters.
  13. Track call quality metrics, jitter, packet loss, and latency across the college network.

Qualifications/Certifications/Licenses/Skills

Required:
  • Bachelor of Science in a computer related field with emphasis in Network Administration, Operations and/or Security.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of related job experience working with routers, network switches, firewalls, VOIP systems, and intrusion prevention systems in an enterprise environment.
Preferred:
  • CCNA Certification or CompTIA Network + Certification.
