Basic Function:
This internship opportunity is designed for college students enrolled in information technology, information security, cybersecurity, or related programs at Texas A&M-Texarkana who are seeking valuable hands-on experience in a secure financial services environment. The intern will work closely with IT and/or IS teams to support daily operations, assist with technology initiatives, and contribute to projects focused on system reliability, data protection, and secure service delivery.
Learning Outcomes
  • Gain firsthand experience supporting the IT and IS operations of a credit union, including network systems, hardware/software support, digital services, and cybersecurity controls.
  • Develop practical knowledge of information security principles, including data protection, access management, risk management, and regulatory compliance within a financial institution.
  • Enhance problem-solving and communication skills by assisting staff with technical issues, documenting processes, and participating in team discussions
  • Gain exposure to IT tolls, ticketing systems, monitoring platforms, and security technologies commonly used in the financial service industry.
  • Develop an understanding of how technology supports member service, operational efficiency, and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities:
  • Learn routine and specific duties within the IT and IS functions
  • Assist with maintaining and supporting computer systems, applications, hardware, and network components.
  • Support IS efforts by helping review access controls, documentation, policies, and compliance requirements.
  • Assist in monitoring system performance, security alerts, and service tickets under supervision.
  • Help document procedures, technical guides, and security processes.
  • Participate in special projects and technology initiatives, including system upgrades, security awareness efforts, and process improvements.
  • Maintain accuracy of confidentiality, and integrity of all system data and information.
  • Adhere to all RRCU policies, procedures, and security standards.

Qualifications:
  • Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Information Technology, Information Security, Cybersecurity, Computer Science or related field at Texas A&M-Texarkana
  • Competent computer skills and familiarity with standard office and technology equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to interact, communicate, and collaborate effectively while maintaining a high level of professionalism.
  • Must maintain a neat and professional appearance.
