Job Description

Position               : Infrastructure Product Manager

Location               : Fairfax, VA Onsite

Duration              : Long term contract

About this Position / Responsibilities 

  • Product Strategy & Roadmap
  • Define and maintain the product roadmap for infrastructure services including data centers, cloud platforms, and network systems.
  • Align infrastructure initiatives with academic, research, and administrative priorities.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration
    • Engage with internal stakeholders including IT operations, cybersecurity, academic departments, and research computing teams.
    • Translate technical capabilities into business value and user-friendly service offerings.
  • Lifecycle Management
    • Manage the full lifecycle of infrastructure products from ideation to retirement.
    • Monitor performance, capacity, and reliability metrics to guide improvements.
  • Vendor & Technology Management
    • Evaluate and manage relationships with infrastructure vendors and service providers.
    • Stay current with emerging technologies and trends in enterprise IT infrastructure.
  • Governance & Compliance
    • Ensure infrastructure products comply with university policies, data governance standards, and regulatory requirements.
    • Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to maintain secure and resilient systems.
  • Budgeting & Resource Planning
    • Develop and manage budgets for infrastructure projects and services.
    • Optimize resource allocation across competing priorities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • 5-10 years of experience in IT infrastructure, systems administration, or product management.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise infrastructure technologies (e.g., virtualization, cloud computing, networking, storage).
  • Knowledge of educational technologies that support teaching and learning, and dependencies on network and compute infrastructure. 
  • Knowledge of research technology and dependencies on network and computer infrastructure. 
  • Knowledge of consumer electronics and dependencies on network and computer infrastructure.
  • Experience with IT service management frameworks (e.g., ITIL) and agile methodologies.
  • PMP Certification.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and leadership skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in higher education or public sector IT environments.
  • Familiarity with hybrid cloud environments (e.g., AWS, Azure, VMware).
  • Knowledge of infrastructure automation and monitoring tools.
  • Understanding of accessibility, sustainability, and energy efficiency in IT infrastructure.
