Role Summary

The Network Engineering team designs, delivers, and supports Suffolk’s enterprise network infrastructure across corporate offices, jobsites, data centers, and cloud environments.
As a Senior Network Engineer, you will lead enterprise network architecture, deployment, operations, and continuous improvement while serving as a key escalation point for complex issues.


Network Architecture & Design
• Design and recommend network solutions that improve performance, resilience, and scalability.
• Architect and deploy LAN/WAN, data center, and cloud networking solutions across AWS and Azure.
• Evaluate emerging technologies, contribute to infrastructure standards, and support capacity planning.

Network Engineering & Implementation
• Install, configure, and manage routers, switches, voice gateways, firewalls, SSL VPN, wireless infrastructure, NAC platforms, and cloud networking components.
• Implement and support VLANs, routing protocols, QoS, DHCP, NTP, PoE, SNMP, FTP/TFTP, CDP, SSH, HTTPS, and AAA

Security & Network Protection
• Deploy and maintain Fortinet security appliances, Aruba ClearPass, and related access control policies.
• Support IDS/IPS, SIEM integrations, firewall hardening, and compliance with security standards.


Monitoring, Performance & Reliability
• Monitor network health, uptime, and performance using tools such as SolarWinds, NetScout, and Wireshark.
• Conduct protocol analysis, troubleshoot latency and packet loss, identify
bottlenecks, and produce performance reports.


Incident Response & Support
• Serve as Tier III escalation point for network-related incidents
• Lead root cause analysis and ensure timely, well-documented resolution of issues.
• Provide after-hours support for critical outages when required
• Troubleshoot hardware, software, and circuit issues including MPLS, QoS, and
private line connectivity


Collaboration & Leadership
• Partner with infrastructure, security, and application teams to deliver integrated IT solutions
• Work with vendors and service providers to support implementations and resolve issues.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance to IT staff


Documentation & Operational Excellence
• Maintain network documentation, including diagrams, configuration standards, and change records.
• Contribute to standardization, monitoring and logging improvements, and process
optimization.
• Support data center and IDF/MDF environments, including equipment and environmental monitoring


Networking Fundamentals
• Deep understanding of TCP/IP and enterprise protocols, including DNS, DHCP, NTP,
HTTP/HTTPS, SMTP, SSL/TLS, LDAP, CIFS, HSRP/VRRP, and 802.1X.


Core Technical Capabilities
• Strong experience with enterprise routing and switching across Cisco, Juniper,
Fortinet, and Aruba environments.
• Cloud networking experience in AWS and Azure.
• WAN technologies including MPLS, VPLS, DIA, and VPN.


Tools & Platforms
• Monitoring and analysis tools: SolarWinds, NetScout (Fluke), and Wireshark.
• Security and access control tools: ClearPass, SIEM, and IDS/IPS.


Professional Skills
• Strong written, verbal, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong mentoring and cross-functional collaboration skills.


Experience & Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience
• 7+ years of enterprise network engineering experience
• Relevant certifications preferred (e.g., CCNP)
• Proven success supporting complex enterprise networking environments
