Job description

Job Title: Lead Network Engineer - Network Lifecycle as a Service (2 Openings)
Hourly/Salary Compensation Range: TBD
Contract Length: 8-week initial pilot
Location: On-site - Pacific Northwest
  • 1 opening: Providence St. Vincent - Portland, OR
  • 1 opening: Providence Mount St. Vincent / Mill Creek - Seattle & Everett, WA

Hours: Full-time, approximately 40 hours/week. Flexibility required for network maintenance windows, cutovers, and potential off-hours deployment activities.
Start Date: Targeting September 14, 2026
Client Overview:
Providence Health is launching an enterprise Network Lifecycle as a Service (LaaS) initiative to modernize its wired and wireless network infrastructure and establish a repeatable five-year lifecycle refresh model.
The initial 8-week pilot will support three Providence locations across Oregon and Washington, replacing and validating LAN switches and wireless access points. Following the pilot, the program is intended to scale across approximately 90-100 Providence sites.
A key objective of Medasource's involvement is to create opportunities for qualified military veterans and military spouses within Providence's technology organization. Veterans, transitioning service members, National Guard/Reserve members, and military spouses with relevant technical experience are strongly encouraged to apply.
Job Description:
The Lead Network Engineer will serve as the senior technical resource for one of two field deployment crews supporting Providence's Network Lifecycle pilot.
Each Lead will oversee a four-person deployment crew consisting of the Lead Network Engineer, two Network Engineers, and one Network Cable Technician. The Lead will be responsible for directing technical execution in the field, performing switch migrations, overseeing network cutovers, troubleshooting deployment issues, and ensuring successful validation following infrastructure changes.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Lead and provide technical direction to a four-person network deployment crew
  • Perform enterprise LAN switch replacements and migrations
  • Lead and oversee network cutover activities
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues encountered during deployment
  • Coordinate wireless access point replacement and validation activities
  • Work within MDF/IDF and network-closet environments
  • Oversee connectivity testing and post-deployment validation
  • Ensure network equipment, ports, cabling, and infrastructure are properly documented
  • Coordinate technical activities with the LaaS Technical Project Manager and project leadership
  • Identify and escalate technical risks or deployment blockers
  • Maintain deployment quality and adherence to established runbooks/processes
  • Support operational acceptance and handoff following deployment

Skill Set Requirements:
  • Strong hands-on enterprise network engineering experience
  • Experience installing, replacing, configuring, and migrating enterprise LAN switches
  • Demonstrated experience executing or leading network cutovers
  • Strong Layer 2/Layer 3 networking fundamentals
  • Understanding of switching, VLANs, trunking, uplinks, and network connectivity
  • Experience supporting enterprise wireless access point deployments or replacements
  • Strong network troubleshooting and problem-resolution skills
  • Experience working within MDF/IDF and network-closet environments
  • Ability to perform connectivity testing and technical validation following network changes
  • Previous experience leading engineers, technicians, or network deployment crews
  • Strong documentation and communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively with project managers, engineers, technicians, client stakeholders, and third-party partners
  • Ability to support maintenance windows and off-hours cutovers as required
  • Ability to work on-site for the duration of the 8-week pilot

Nice to Haves:
  • Cisco switching and wireless experience
  • Large-scale enterprise network refresh experience
  • Healthcare or hospital network infrastructure experience
  • Experience with high-volume LAN switch and AP replacement projects
  • Providence Health experience
  • Experience leading field-based network deployment teams
  • Military experience within networking, communications, Signal, cyber, IT, telecommunications, electronics, or similar technical specialties
  • Military leadership experience supervising technical personnel or field deployments

Military Veteran & Military Spouse Initiative:
Military talent is a primary sourcing focus for this engagement. Candidates with military backgrounds should be evaluated based on the technical and leadership responsibilities they performed in service-not solely on whether they have held an equivalent civilian job title.
Relevant military networking, communications, infrastructure, troubleshooting, technical leadership, and field-deployment experience may translate directly to the responsibilities of this position.
Education/Certification(s)/License(s):
  • Bachelor's degree preferred but not required with equivalent professional or military experience
  • CCNA, CCNP, or comparable networking certification preferred
  • Relevant Cisco certifications are a plus
  • Relevant military technical training and demonstrated hands-on networking experience may be considered in place of traditional education or certifications
