Position Description

The Network Engineer III plans and implements network augments and pop builds on the IP/Ethernet network.In this fast-paced and challenging environment you will work with various internal teams to efficiently complete implementation projects.

*** It is a requirement of this role that the candidate must have Government of Canada Security Clearance AND they must reside in Canada ***

Responsibilities:

  • Identify areas of backbone congestion and facilitate new IP trunk installations

  • Engineer capacity details, such as router port, cross-connect, metro/in-building dark fiber

  • Update status and progress in salesforce on a daily and regular basis

  • Verify and update project documentation

  • Configure and ship equipment as required by the project

  • Work with internal teams to activate and verify the functionality of deployed equipment

  • Provide feedback for system reporting and automation

  • Create detailed plans for network optimization opportunities

  • Negotiate with vendors on cost savings initiatives

  • Work with equipment vendors to negotiate quotes

  • Provide training and assist colleagues on infrastructure builds and capacity augments

Qualifications:

  • Must have Government of Canada Security Clearance

  • Familiar with fundamentals of IP routing and switching, including BGP, DNS, IP address management

  • Direct and recent experience troubleshooting router connectivity in a complex routed network environment

  • Direct and recent experience using a router CLI to provision IP/Ethernet services

  • Familiar with fundamentals of provisioning fiber-based circuits in a data center environment, including patches, cross-connects, risers, and backhaul

  • Experience working in a team within a complex and fast-paced environment

  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to focus on the salient facts to resolve an issue

  • Experience organizing multiple, time-sequenced tasks across several concurrent projects

  • Must have experience with Cisco, and/or Junos and Nokia

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline or equivalent education, training and/or experience.

  • Required Network Engineering experience

  • Minimum of five (5) years telecommunications and/or data networking experience.

  • Preferred Certification - CCNA, CCNP, JNCIA, JNCIP
