Job description


Job Summary:

The Network Engineer ensures the stability, integrity and efficient operation of the in-house information systems that support the program. This is achieved by monitoring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all networked software associated operating systems. The Senior Network Engineer will apply communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate, and resolves issues to maximize the benefit of IT systems investments.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Identifies, analyzes, and resolves network problems
  • Provides network/equipment/specialized training and technical guidance
  • Determines network specifications, input/output processes, and working parameters for hardware/software compatibility
  • May provide guidance and leadership to less-experienced systems engineers
  • Maintains current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned
  • Comprehensive knowledge of network engineering principles, methods, and techniques
  • Knowledge of the associated hardware, software, and equipment
  • Participates in special projects as assigned

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Configure and manage Cisco IOS/IOS XE devices and enterprise switching environments
  • Administer Palo Alto NGFWs using PAN-OS, including rule sets and security policies
  • Implement and maintain Cisco ASA firewall configurations
  • Design and troubleshoot Layer 2/Layer 3 networks, including VLAN segmentation and OSPF routing
  • Apply ACLs across network and security layers to enforce access control policies
  • Analyze and mitigate risks related to Spanning Tree misconfigurations
  • Support Linux-based environments with RHEL system knowledge
  • Ensure compliance with DISA STIG security standards

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Arts / Bachelor of Science AND 5+ years of related Network Engineering experience
  • Master's Degree AND 3+ years of related Network Engineering Experience
  • Appropriate Level Cybersecurity Certification require (Security+ OR CCNA)

Physical Requirements:

  • The work is typically performed in an office environment, which requires normal safety precautions; work may require some physical effort in the handling of light materials, boxes, or equipment.
