Job Description:

Role Overview: WAN / Connectivity Network Engineer
This role supports Vanguard’s Connectivity Services team, which owns all network services at the edge—both internal and external. The focus is on WAN, Internet Edge, and B2B connectivity, with immediate emphasis on workload relief for a lean engineering team managing critical infrastructure. 1
Core Mission
Provide hands-on engineering support for WAN and edge network operations

Reduce pressure on a 4 engineer team supporting WAN, Internet Edge, and B2B Edge connectivity

Balance engineering work with lifecycle management and execution (no separate “run” org)

We are looking for an experienced Network Engineer to help design, build, and operate highly reliable enterprise connectivity services that support mission‑critical financial platforms. In this role, you will work on complex global networks, partnering with infrastructure, security, and business teams to deliver scalable, secure, and resilient connectivity solutions.

This position is ideal for a hands‑on engineer who enjoys ownership, technical leadership, and continuous modernization—someone who wants to influence how enterprise networks evolve in a regulated, high‑availability environment.

What You’ll Do

Design, implement, and support enterprise WAN, MAN, MPLS, VPN, third‑party, and voice connectivity solutions across domestic and international locations.

Provide technical leadership across the full solution lifecycle, including design reviews, pilots, production readiness, and operational handoff.

Analyze network performance, capacity, and traffic trends; establish baselines and proactively implement improvements.

Collaborate with infrastructure, security, and business partners to ensure solutions meet performance, resiliency, and security requirements.

Lead and contribute to technical discussions on routing, traffic optimization, observability, and monitoring.

Develop and maintain clear, high‑quality documentation, including standards, runbooks, diagrams, and operational procedures.

Mentor and support other engineers through knowledge sharing, reviews, and informal coaching.

Identify opportunities to automate manual processes and improve operational efficiency.

Ensure compliance with internal controls, information security standards, and regulatory expectations typical of financial services environments.

Participate in strategic initiatives and special projects as the network continues to modernize.

Support coax‑based networks and QAM systems, where applicable.

What You Bring

Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent professional experience.

5+ years of network engineering experience in large‑scale enterprise environments (financial services experience is a plus).

Strong knowledge of network design best practices, performance engineering, and troubleshooting.

Hands‑on experience with Cisco (ISR, ASR, Catalyst) and Juniper WAN and edge platforms.

Proficiency with Cisco IOS / IOS‑XE and JunOS.

Solid understanding of TCP/IP, OSPF, BGP, and enterprise routing concepts.

Experience working with network security principles and collaborating with security teams.

Demonstrated ability to lead technical efforts, communicate clearly, and influence outcomes across teams.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Cisco and/or Juniper certifications are preferred.

Why Join Us

Work on highly visible, business‑critical networks in a regulated financial services environment.

Collaborate with skilled engineers and technology leaders who value reliability, ownership, and continuous improvement.

Influence the future of enterprise connectivity through modernization, automation, and strategic design.

Competitive compensation, comprehensive benefits, and ongoing professional development opportunities.
