Network Deployment Project Manager information

What does a network deployment project manager do?

A Network Deployment Project Manager oversees the planning, execution, and completion of network infrastructure projects. They coordinate teams, manage timelines, budgets, and resources, and ensure that network installations or upgrades are delivered on schedule and according to specifications. Their role involves liaising between technical staff, vendors, and clients to resolve issues and keep the project on track. They are essential in ensuring that new or expanded networks meet the organization’s needs and comply with industry standards.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a network deployment project manager?

A Network Deployment Project Manager needs strong project management experience, knowledge of networking technologies, and often a bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field. Familiarity with project management tools (like MS Project or Jira), network planning software, and certifications such as PMP or Cisco's CCNP are commonly required. Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills help manage teams and coordinate with stakeholders effectively. These abilities ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet technical requirements in complex network environments.

What are the primary challenges faced by network deployment project managers during large-scale rollouts?

Network Deployment Project Managers often encounter challenges such as coordinating multiple vendors, managing tight timelines, and addressing unforeseen technical issues during large-scale rollouts. Balancing the needs of cross-functional teams—like engineering, procurement, and operations—requires strong communication and organizational skills. Additionally, maintaining compliance with regulatory standards and ensuring minimal disruption to existing network services are crucial aspects of the role. Successfully navigating these challenges is key to delivering projects on time and within budget.

What is the difference between Network Deployment Project Manager vs Network Engineer?

Employer & Industry UsageTelecom, IT services, large enterprisesIT departments, network service providers, data centers

The Network Deployment Project Manager focuses on planning, coordinating, and overseeing network deployment projects, ensuring timely delivery. In contrast, a Network Engineer is primarily responsible for designing, configuring, and maintaining network systems. While both roles require similar certifications and work in related environments, their core responsibilities differ significantly, with the project manager handling management tasks and the engineer focusing on technical network implementation.

Job description

About the team:

The Fleet Operations Team drives uptime and operational performance across Formic's growing fleet of deployed robotic systems. Working inside live manufacturing environments, the team diagnoses issues, restores production, and continuously improves system reliability at scale. Fleet Operations operates at the intersection of robotics, controls, and real-world factory execution, ensuring Formic's automation delivers consistent, measurable performance across diverse industrial applications.

About the role:

As a Robotics Deployment Project Manager, you will lead the end-to-end execution of robotics automation deployments across a range of customer environments. You will own scope alignment, deployment planning, execution oversight, and cross-functional coordination to ensure systems are delivered on time, on budget, and to specification.

This role requires strong technical fluency, disciplined project management, and the ability to drive alignment across customers, internal teams, and third-party integrators. You will play a key role in ensuring deployments run smoothly and consistently as Formic scales its robotics fleet.

In this role you will:

  • Lead deployment projects from scope validation through installation and commissioning
  • Partner with Applications and Solutions Engineers as well as third-party integrators to define requirements and validate technical scope
  • Develop and manage detailed project plans, timelines, budgets, and risk mitigation strategies
  • Monitor project progress and ensure adherence to deadlines, quality standards, and cost targets
  • Facilitate resolution of technical, operational, and scheduling issues that arise during deployment
  • Coordinate communication across customers, integrators, and internal teams
  • Drive structured handoffs from pre-sales through deployment and project close-out
  • Contribute to the standardization and continuous improvement of internal deployment and project management processes

What makes you a great fit:

  • 5+ years of project management experience in technically complex manufacturing or industrial environments
  • 3+ years of direct experience working with robotics or automation systems
  • Experience supporting end-of-line automation such as robotic palletizing, depalletizing, or case packing preferred
  • Experience working with industrial robots or cobots (e.g., FANUC, KUKA, Yaskawa, ABB, Universal Robots)
  • Experience working with or alongside industrial robotics system integrators
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and competing priorities
  • Structured problem-solver who thrives in fast-paced environments
  • Willingness to travel approximately 35-40%
  • Valid driver's license and reliable access to a vehicle for local travel (mileage reimbursed per Formic policy)
