Process Control Engineer

Location: Columbus, MT

Site - Stillwater Mine & East Boulder Mine

Schedule:

5x2, 4x3 9hr Shifts

Job Responsibilities and Duties:

At Sibanye-Stillwater, the Process Control Engineer is responsible for the programming and system maintenance of PLC's and HMI's. This includes the ability to read, create, and understand P&ID's, loops, electrical diagrams, and schematics. The Process Control Engineer will work closely with maintenance personnel for new installation and maintenance of process instrumentation and the electrical distribution system.

  • Promote and maintain a safe work environment, safe work practices, and a strong safety culture.
  • Monitor, program and maintain plant PLC/SCADA control systems, consisting of multiple processors, and remote I/O racks.
  • Interface with managers, department heads, general foremen, supervisors, and hourly workforce to implement, troubleshoot and maintain electrical and process systems throughout the facility.
  • Provide technical solutions/improvements for process control systems.
  • System trouble shooting and support on existing instrumentation, networks and hardware.
  • Develop and implement automated supervisory controls to optimize plant, reducing downtime and costs.
  • Manage the HMI systems with historians.
  • Assist with design and installation of new remote PLC control stations and equipment.
  • Review specifications, I&C drawings, HMI screens, PLC programs, SCADA, etc.
  • Conduct regular audits and over inspections on C&I field equipment, HMI and Control Logic software to ensure compliance with standards, specifications, and operational functional specifications. 

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Knowledge of maintenance procedures and functions in an industrial environment.
  • Ability to communicate with technical specialists and to interpret technical drawings and specification documents.
  • Leadership qualities including character, teamwork, communication, business sense, and vision.
  • Understanding of ethernet I/P networking and control net.
  • PLC programming using ladder logic, function block, and/or structured text.
  • Proficient in computer applications (Microsoft Office Suite to include Word and Excel).
  • Ability to read and interpret technical engineering drawings.

Education & Experience

  • Entry level position (0 – 5 years' experience)
  • Degree in engineering (BS Electrical Engineering or Instrumentation) or equivalent controls experience.
  • Must be able to work any shift, including weekends, as needed.
