Job Responsibilities of a Data Center Technician:

Hardware Installation & Maintenance

  • Install, configure, and maintain servers, storage systems, and network devices
  • Perform hardware diagnostics, preventive maintenance, and replacements
  • Rack, stack, and cable data center equipment as per standards

Network Support

  • Support setup and maintenance of network infrastructure (switches, routers, patch panels)
  • Troubleshoot hardware-level connectivity issues (LAN/WAN, cabling, ports)
  • Coordinate with network teams for upgrades and changes

Systems Monitoring & Troubleshooting

  • Conduct site inspections and regular walkthroughs
  • Monitor system health and performance using tools
  • Respond to outages, alarms, and hardware failures
  • Perform root cause analysis and document resolutions

Power & Cooling Management

  • Monitor power infrastructure (UPS, PDUs, generators)
  • Support HVAC systems and ensure proper cooling
  • Maintain environmental standards (temperature, humidity)

Security & Compliance

  • Enforce physical security and access protocols
  • Ensure compliance with audits and policies
  • Maintain logs and documentation

Documentation & Inventory

  • Track hardware inventory, cabling, and configurations
  • Maintain SOPs and incident records
  • Manage spare parts and coordinate procurement

Collaboration & Support

  • Work with internal teams and vendors
