Job description

Job Title: Traveling Cable Technician


Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and dependable Traveling Cable Technician to install, maintain, and troubleshoot cable systems across multiple locations. This role requires frequent travel, technical expertise in cabling systems, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team to deliver high-quality service to clients. This is a contract-to-hire opportunity, offering long-term potential for the right candidate, and includes per diem to supplement travel-related expenses.


Key Responsibilities
  • Install, terminate, test, and troubleshoot various cable systems, including:
    • Fiber optic
    • Coaxial
    • Ethernet (Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A, etc.)
  • Perform structured cabling installations in commercial, industrial, and/or residential environments
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical diagrams
  • Conduct cable testing, certification, and documentation using industry tools
  • Troubleshoot network and connectivity issues efficiently
  • Maintain compliance with safety standards and company policies
  • Travel to job sites (often regionally or nationwide) for installation and service projects
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED (technical certification preferred)
  • 1–3+ years of experience in cable installation or telecommunications
  • Strong knowledge of structured cabling systems and installation techniques
  • Experience with cable testing tools (Fluke testers or similar)
