Job description

SR. IT NETWORK AUTOMATION ENGINEER

SpaceX is looking for an experienced Sr. Network Automation Engineer to help build the tools necessary to support our large and growing network infrastructure. This employee will be a member of the IT Network Engineering team, which is responsible for maintaining a stable, reliable and diverse network. This network supports the designing, manufacturing and launching of rockets, spacecraft, satellites as well as human space flight. The ideal candidate will be a great communicator, able to document their work, excel at multi-tasking and enjoy a fast-paced high-tech environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Build network automation tools to support switch configurations, config backups, software updates, logging, monitoring and alerting
  • Create Python scripts to automate manual network processes
  • Measure, maintain, and improve the uptime and performance of the corporate network
  • Act as technical product owner for infrastructure tools and software used by the network engineering team
  • Innovate ways to scale with automation and operational improvements
  • Collaborate closely with network engineers to create highly operable and maintainable infrastructure
  • Provide mentorship to junior engineers

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, math, or science discipline and 5+ years of network automation, DevOps, network engineering, or site reliability engineering experience OR 8+ years of experience in network automation.
  • Experience with Linux operating system
  • Automation skills in Python, Go, shell, bash, and/or other languages

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience with networking protocols, their application and traffic types: TCP/IPv4/IPv6, gaming, voice, video, broadcast, streaming etc.
  • Experience with source code and version control tools such as Git or Subversion
  • Comfortable working with mission critical and sensitive systems, with a sense of urgency appropriate to the responsibilities
  • Understanding of fundamental networking
  • Experience with managing hundreds to thousands of network assets in an automated environment
  • Experience with Puppet, Ansible, or other automation frameworks
  • Ability to run projects independently
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate with customers, peers, management etc. in both formal and informal situations

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to work extended hours and weekends as needed

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: 

Pay Range:    
Sr. IT Network Automation Engineer: $160,000.00 - $225,000.00/per year

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX. You may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of company stock, stock options, or long-term cash awards, as well as potential discretionary bonuses and the ability to purchase additional stock at a discount through an Employee Stock Purchase Plan. You will also receive access to comprehensive medical, vision, and dental coverage, access to a 401(k) retirement plan, short and long-term disability insurance, life insurance, paid parental leave, and various other discounts and perks. You may also accrue 3 weeks of paid vacation and will be eligible for 10 or more paid holidays per year. Employees in Washington State accrue paid sick time in compliance with state and federal law. Company shuttles are offered to employees for roundtrip travel from select Seattle locations to the SpaceX Redmond office Monday to Friday.
