Job description

Our client is seeking a Senior Network Security Architect / Engineer who is passionate about building, designing, and transforming enterprise network and security environments. This is not a traditional network support role. We are looking for a builder and thinker who can take complex business and security requirements, develop the right technical architecture, and then help lead the implementation from concept through deployment.

This individual will architect and engineer secure, scalable network infrastructures across a diverse portfolio of clients, with a strong focus on enterprise networking, cybersecurity, cloud connectivity, firewall architecture, SD-WAN, network segmentation, and compliance-driven environments.

The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys asking "What should this environment look like?" rather than simply "How do I fix what's already here?"

This is a 100% remote position with up to 25% travel for client implementations, architecture engagements, and major infrastructure transformation projects.

Key Responsibilities

Network & Security Architecture

  • Design and architect secure, scalable enterprise network infrastructures across multi-site, hybrid-cloud, and distributed environments.
  • Develop high-level and detailed technical architectures based on business, operational, and security requirements.
  • Design network and security solutions that are scalable, resilient, highly available, and aligned with industry best practices.
  • Establish network architecture standards, security frameworks, technology roadmaps, and infrastructure design patterns.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and make recommendations regarding network, security, cloud, and connectivity solutions.
  • Translate business requirements into practical technical solutions and implementation strategies.

Infrastructure Engineering & Implementation

  • Lead the engineering and deployment of enterprise network and security solutions from design through implementation and production rollout.
  • Architect and implement enterprise firewall environments utilizing technologies such as Palo Alto, Fortinet, Cisco ASA/Firepower, Juniper SRX, and Sophos.
  • Design and engineer enterprise routing and switching architectures utilizing BGP, OSPF, HSRP/VRRP, VLANs, QoS, Cisco Catalyst/Nexus, Juniper, Aruba, and Meraki.
  • Architect and implement SD-WAN, VPN, secure remote access, and hybrid-cloud connectivity solutions.
  • Design and implement network segmentation, micro-segmentation, Zero Trust architectures, and security hardening strategies.
  • Develop and execute infrastructure migration, modernization, and technology refresh strategies.
  • Lead complex network and security implementations involving multiple sites, platforms, vendors, and technology environments.

Cybersecurity & Compliance Architecture

  • Design security architectures supporting CMMC Level 2, NIST 800-171, SOC 2, and other regulated environments.
  • Architect solutions incorporating IDS/IPS, NAC, SIEM, endpoint security integrations, secure access, and security monitoring.
  • Design security controls and network architectures that support compliance objectives while maintaining operational efficiency.
  • Partner with cybersecurity and compliance teams to identify architectural gaps and develop remediation strategies.

Technical Leadership

  • Serve as a senior technical advisor to clients and internal engineering teams.
  • Lead technical discovery sessions, architecture workshops, solution reviews, and implementation planning.
  • Own technical decisions and provide clear recommendations regarding architecture, technology selection, security, scalability, and cost.
  • Mentor network and security engineers and help establish engineering best practices.
  • Collaborate with project managers, cybersecurity teams, cloud engineers, and other technical resources to successfully deliver complex infrastructure projects.
  • Provide technical leadership during major implementations, migrations, outages, and infrastructure transformation initiatives.

Documentation & Standards

  • Create and maintain network architecture diagrams, solution designs, implementation plans, standards, and technical documentation.
  • Develop repeatable architecture patterns and implementation standards across client environments.
  • Produce detailed technical documentation that can be utilized by engineering teams for implementation and ongoing lifecycle management.
  • Ensure solutions are properly documented, auditable, and aligned with established architecture and security standards.

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of enterprise network and security engineering experience, with demonstrated experience designing and building complex environments.
  • Proven ability to architect and implement enterprise network and security solutions rather than primarily providing operational support.
  • Strong hands-on experience with enterprise firewall platforms, preferably Palo Alto, Fortinet, and Cisco.
  • Deep expertise in enterprise routing, switching, SD-WAN, VPN, network segmentation, and hybrid-cloud connectivity.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and implementing Zero Trust and secure network architectures.
  • Experience leading network/security implementations, migrations, infrastructure transformations, or major technology projects.

What We're Looking For

The successful candidate will be a builder, architect, and problem solver.

You should be comfortable walking into an environment that needs to be modernized, understanding the business and technical requirements, developing the architecture, selecting the right technologies, and then rolling up your sleeves and helping build it.

This position is ideal for someone who wants to spend their time designing what comes next, leading major infrastructure initiatives, and solving complex network and security challenges—not simply maintaining yesterday's environment.

If you enjoy designing, building, and transforming enterprise infrastructure, this is an opportunity to make a significant technical impact.
