Core Skillsets Required

1. Systems Administration (Microsoft-focused)

  • Strong expertise in Microsoft Windows Server administration (2016/2019/2022)
  • Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS), Group Policy (GPO), and Azure Active Directory / Entra ID
  • Microsoft 365 / Office 365 administration (Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive)
  • PowerShell scripting and automation
  • Virtualization technologies (Hyper-V, Azure Virtual Machines)
  • Windows client deployment and management (Intune, Autopilot)

2. Network Administration

  • Network infrastructure management (switches, routers, firewalls, VPNs)
  • TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing, and subnetting
  • Wi-Fi network management and optimization
  • Site-to-site and remote access VPN configuration
  • Network monitoring and troubleshooting

3. Security & Compliance

  • Experience implementing and managing security controls (defense-in-depth)
  • Microsoft security stack: Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, Defender for Cloud, Intune security policies
  • Vulnerability assessment, patch management, and remediation
  • Multi-factor authentication (MFA), Conditional Access, and Identity & Access Management (IAM)
  • Security monitoring, logging, and incident response
  • Familiarity with security frameworks (NIST, CIS benchmarks)

4. Leadership & Operational Skills

  • Hands-on technical leadership (not just strategy — must be willing to perform the work)
  • Vendor management and coordination with Managed Service Providers (MSPs)
  • Stakeholder management (internal staff, leadership, external partners)
  • Proactive infrastructure improvement and modernization
  • IT documentation, process development, and best practices implementation
  • Project management for small-to-medium infrastructure initiatives
