NexGen Data Systems is seeking an IT Subject Matter Expert. This position provides high-level technical guidance, strategic architecture, and operational oversight for enterprise-level Storage Area Networks (SAN), Network Attached Storage (NAS), object storage, hybrid cloud environments, and disaster recovery frameworks. Serving in an advisory and technical leadership capacity, this individual evaluates emerging technologies, designs automated data protection workflows, and ensures all storage and backup assets comply with strict Department of Defense (DoD) security standards and continuity of operations (COOP) mandates.


Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Serve as Key Personnel and lead technical advisor on enterprise storage, backup systems, and business continuity/disaster recovery (BC/DR) architecture.
  • Design, implement, and maintain risk assessment frameworks, disaster recovery runbooks, and failover validation methodologies across on-premises and hybrid cloud environments.
  • Lead the evaluation, architectural design, implementation, and lifecycle management of enterprise storage arrays (featuring NetApp ONTAP and Pure Storage) and fabric switches (Brocade Fibre Channel).
  • Oversee enterprise-class data protection, backup, and restore operations featuring Cohesity DataProtect, Veritas NetBackup, and commercial cloud storage tiers (AWS S3/Glacier, Azure Blob/Backup, OCI).
  • Architect and implement storage security controls, including ransomware mitigation, data immutability, encryption-at-rest/in-transit, and compliance with DISA STIGs and IAVAs to ensure audit readiness.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex, escalated storage bottlenecks, fabric connectivity failures, and backup anomalies; perform root cause analysis and communicate actionable solutions to leadership.
  • Drive infrastructure automation using scripting (Python, PowerShell, Bash) and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) to streamline storage capacity forecasting, volume provisioning, and backup policy enforcement.
  • Oversee storage presentation, multipathing (MPIO), and backup agent configurations for Windows Server and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) hosting enterprise database systems (Oracle, SQL Server).
  • Mentor, guide, and lead engineering teams, fostering technical excellence, peer reviews, and adherence to operational standards.
  • Author and review comprehensive technical documentation, including SOPs, system designs, project schedules, disaster recovery plans, and executive status reports.NexGen Data Systems is seeking an Information Technology Subject Matter Expert. This position will serve as a Management Information System (MIS) manager. Designs, develops, and manages implementation of risk assessment and business contingency planning framework, methodology and tools to ensure business continuity of operations across a large, multi-division, decentralized organization. Supports multilanguage, multi-platform and multi-operating system operations and utilizes electronic commerce and Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) applications.

Requirements

Desired/Required Skills:

  • Active Department of Defense Secret security clearance required (IT-I / Critical-Sensitive determination / Tier 5 SSBI investigation required).
  • DoD Approved 8570 / 8140 baseline certification required: IAT Level II (e.g., Security+ CE, CCNA Security, CySA+, GICSP, GSEC, CND, or SSCP).
  • Relevant Computing Environment (CE) certification required (at least one of the following):
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
  • NetApp Certified Data Administrator (NCDA ONTAP)
  • NetApp Certified Implementation Engineer - SAN Specialist (NCIE SAN ONTAP)
  • NetApp Certified Hybrid Cloud Administrator / Architect / Implementation Engineer
  • Cohesity Certified Protection Associate (DataProtect) / Professional (NetBackup)
  • Dell Certified Associate - Information Storage and Management (DCA-ISM)
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent; relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive professional experience in enterprise IT engineering, including:
  • Hands-on administration of enterprise SAN/NAS environments (Fibre Channel zoning via Brocade, iSCSI, FCoE, LUN provisioning/masking, and NFS/SMB protocols).
  • Supporting Department of Defense (DoD) or Federal enterprise computing environments.
  • Architecting, deploying, and maintaining storage arrays (NetApp, Pure Storage) and data protection platforms (Cohesity DataProtect, Veritas NetBackup).
  • At least two (2) years serving in a technical lead or advisory capacity guiding enterprise infrastructure projects and engineering teams.
  • Hands-on experience integrating commercial cloud storage and backup services (AWS S3/Glacier, Azure Blob, OCI).
  • Demonstrated experience hardening storage platforms against DISA STIGs, remediating IAVAs, and supporting federal audit readiness.
  • Proven scripting and automation experience utilizing PowerShell, Python, or Bash for storage provisioning, backup scheduling, and capacity management.
  • Strong working knowledge of Windows Server and RHEL storage administration, MPIO configurations, and database protection (Oracle, Microsoft SQL).
  • Exceptional verbal and written technical communication skills, with proven ability to present complex technical designs and disaster recovery strategies to executive leadership.
