Job description

At Tutor Me Education, we are revolutionizing the way students learn, and we're seeking passionate teachers, academic coaches, and specialists to provide 1:1 tutoring in San Francisco, CA! About the Role: We are seeking an experienced Academic Coach or Tutor to work one-on-one with an adult college student attending the City College of San Francisco. The ideal candidate will have strong experience supporting adult learners, particularly those navigating mental health challenges or neurodiverse/disability needs.

The student requires general academic support to stay on track with introductory, non-STEM college coursework. This role focuses on helping the student manage assignments, develop executive functioning and study skills, improve reading and writing tasks, and build confidence within an encouraging, accommodating environment. There are no advanced, upper-level courses, higher math, or science tutoring required.

Position Details:

  • Location: City College of San Francisco (50 Frida Kahlo Way, San Francisco, CA 94112)
  • Schedule: 2 to 3 sessions per week (1.5 to 2 hours per session); availability on Mondays (after 2:00 PM), Tuesdays (before 3:00 PM), Wednesdays (after 12:00 PM), and flexible on Thursdays/Fridays
  • Hours: Flexible per week based on agreed schedule (up to 6 hours/week)
  • Subjects: General College Academic Support & Executive Functioning (Introductory Humanities/Social Sciences; No Math, No Science, No Upper-Level Subjects)
  • Compensation: Up to $45-$50/hr
Your Responsibilities:
  • Provide individualized 1:1 academic coaching and tutoring for general introductory college courses
  • Assist with reading comprehension, foundational essay writing, organization, and assignment planning
  • Implement strategies to build executive functioning skills, including time management, note-taking, and task initiation
  • Adapt coaching methods to support learners with mental health challenges and/or disabilities, maintaining a calm, empathetic, and structured dynamic
  • Help the student navigate college course portals, syllabus requirements, and assignment deadlines
  • Foster student autonomy while providing a supportive safety net for academic stress
Who We Are Looking For:
  • Demonstrated experience working with adult learners in a tutoring, educational, or academic coaching capacity
  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities and/or mental health conditions
  • Strong background in supporting introductory college-level writing, reading, and general coursework
  • Patient, empathetic, highly structured, and skilled at de-escalating academic anxiety
  • Excellent organizational skills and familiarity with higher education routines
  • Open to an in-person schedule at the CCSF campus matching the requested times
