Service Engineer IICompany Overview

Role Overview

The Service Engineer II provides technical support for gas turbines, steam turbines, generators, and auxiliary equipment, including rapid resolution of non-conformance reports (NCRs), engineering support requests (ESRs), and field issue evaluations with data collection and root cause analysis. This intermediate-level role requires applied engineering knowledge and the ability to manage assignments with limited supervision while taking on increasingly complex technical responsibilities under senior guidance. The position involves collaboration with field service and long-term service teams to drive quality improvements, cost reductions, and competitiveness of Mitsubishi Power products and services. Additional responsibilities include supporting continuous improvement initiatives, fleet risk management, outage planning, service product development, and sales support. As part of the service organization, the role may require non-core hours and evening coordination calls with Japan engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates our core competencies: Action oriented, change champion, customer-focused, developing self & others, and ownership
  • Provide technical support for field inspections and issue resolution on gas turbines, steam turbines, generators, and auxiliary equipment with minimal supervision.
  • Apply knowledge of turbine configurations, reference drawings, and specifications to support service activities.
  • Review field measurements against manufacturing drawings; recommend corrective actions such as welding, clearance adjustments, and assembly procedures.
  • Lead and support root cause analysis and corrective actions using the 8D RCA process.
  • Analyze fleet operating data and communicate findings to improve design and reliability.
  • Prepare work instructions and recommend process improvements for inspections and service tasks.
  • Support outage planning, service product development, and participate in field outages to document conditions and resolve non-conformances.
  • Ensure compliance with safety procedures and ISO 9001 standards; report unsafe conditions and support audits.
  • Perform peer reviews of engineering deliverables (e.g., NCRs, ESRs, outage reports).
  • Utilize service support systems (Windchill, NCR, ESSR, etc.) for issue resolution and documentation.
  • Suggest product and service improvements to enhance customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure products meet internal and customer requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • BS degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited college or university; and course work in the major field being associated with turbo-machinery. 
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in an engineering design or service-related experience is required, or a minimum of 12 years of directly related engineering work experience may be substituted for the degree requirement (some work credit may be given for MS or PhD degrees based on the relevancy of course and related project experience). 
  • Knowledge of gas turbine engineering including overall turbine configuration, gas turbine configuration, and properties of materials commonly used in turbines, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing per ASME Y14.5.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as industry reports and technical journals. Ability to write technical reports and correspondence including customer reports. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one, small group, and large group situations to customers, clients, vendors and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to perform necessary calculations to satisfy job requirements.
  • Ability to make judgment decisions based on specifications or technical requirements.
  • Advanced personal computer skills including MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Project), OSIsoft PI, Sharepoint, etc. Preferred including: PTC Suite (Creo, Windchill, Matlab), Computer programming (Python, VBA, C++), other CAD software (Solidworks, AutoCAD), etc.
