Job description

PRIMARY PURPOSE
The Automations and Electrical Controls Engineer has responsibility for overall Automations and Electrical Maintenance Operations at the Aiken manufacturing facility. They are responsible for all aspects of the electrical maintenance processes, and uses engineering skills to drive improvements in safety, productivity, and quality, while reducing costs and assuring environmental compliance.
Reports To: Maintenance Leader
Span of Control: Supports all technical, manufacturing, and quality processes
Direct Reports: no direct reports
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead Safety for an injury free work environment
  • Educates team members on safe maintenance work processes and procedures
  • Adheres to, and continuously improves, all Plant and position-specific safety policies, procedures, and standards
  • Ensures a safe, clean and environmentally compliant work environment and builds a culture where safety is a first priority
  • Effectively communicates Owens Corning's stand of safety with external parties and ensures that they work according to our safety standards
  • Good knowledge of NEC NFPA 70 and 70E, including Arc Flash

Developing Talent
  • Develops and executes training plans for maintenance personnel and creates a continuous learning environment for employees
  • Co-leads and coaches' primary maintenance workforce and drives their engagement
  • Promotes a work environment characterized by mutual trust and respect, open and honest communications, teamwork and a passion for winning
  • Serves as a technical expert and invests in the growth and development of others
  • Works closely with the Operation Department in a team-based environment that is designed to manage in a manner that will ensure continuously improving machine performance and employee efficiency

Leading Automations Maintenance Operations
  • Provide electrical, controls and automation support to automation projects, Plant production, packaging and utility operations
  • Support Plant Maintenance and Operations Teams in system and equipment troubleshooting and in technology transfer
  • Train maintenance technicians and operators on new technology to allow proper maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Reliability Champion for Motor Circuit Analysis and thermography PdM programs
  • Support break down analysis process and create One Point Lessons (OPLs) to support knowledge transfer
  • Ensures the proper routine electrical maintenance of Plant equipment
  • Promotes the service and quality culture in the department to meet/exceed established goals
  • Develops and executes Preventive and Predictive Maintenance programs
  • Improves the reliability of the plant power systems through preventative and predictive maintenance and capital improvements
  • Identifies and captures opportunities for reliability performance and cost improvement
  • Responsible for maintaining an up-to-date and complete set of as-built electrical and controls documentation; including automation device data base (HMI's, VFD's, PLC's, IP addresses)
  • Provides instrumentation, PLC, HMI, VFD's, AspenTech, and hardware support to the Plant Maintenance Staff
  • Site Electrical expert for all voltages between 5VDC to 12.47kV
  • Electrical and automation troubleshooting: diagnosing problems by applying various troubleshooting techniques with the use of computers, PLC's, voltage meters, current meters, oscilloscopes and electrical formulas.
  • Support Plant team and MTCE Leadership in performing skills and training needs assessment for maintenance craft personnel, develop and assist with execution of training plan to advance their troubleshooting, electrical safety and programming skills.
  • Performs root cause failure analysis and develops troubleshooting guides for site equipment.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
  • Five years of automation and control engineering experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong safety awareness, commitment and safety leadership
  • Experience working with 480 V
  • Experience leading projects (Capital, Focused Improvement)
  • Strong knowledge of PLC based controls, HMI applications, and programming (Siemens)
  • Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required by operational support needs

EXPERIENCE
  • Experience working with Siemens PLC strongly preferred (Variable Frequency Drives)
  • Six Sigma/Lean manufacturing experience preferred
  • Understanding of Profi-Net and Ethernet Communication and Network Technology
  • Understanding of 15 KV Electrical Distribution
  • Understanding of Coordinated Multi Drive System
  • Understanding of Siemens WinCC
  • Experience working with Siemens Step 7, Simotion Scout, Simocode, LAD
  • Understanding of Siemens PLCs and Process Automation
  • Experience in continuous manufacturing
  • Expertise in guard systems
  • Be responsive to the needs of the plant (will be on call)
  • Experience utilizing SAP or other MMS programs and Microsoft Office products
  • Demonstrated ability to work both strategically and hands-on
  • Project scheduling skills
  • General knowledge of Total Productive Maintenance and maintenance processes preferred
  • Familiarization with lean manufacturing processes
  • A proven track record of driving results by engaging others
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and guide for results
  • Demonstrated ability to organize/lead multi-functional teams to achieve plant objectives
  • Experience in mechanical and hydraulic/pneumatic systems.
  • Familiarity with equipment criticality rankings, FMEAs, RCAs, and other reliability tools.
