Junior Cloud DevOps Engineer

Position Overview
KBR is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Cloud DevOps Engineer to join our team in delivering innovative and mission-critical enterprise hybrid cloud solutions to our customers. You will be part of a dynamic team working on mission-critical systems that process and archive remote sensing data. You'll gain hands-on experience across the full systems engineering lifecycle, collaborate with multidisciplinary experts, and contribute to projects with global impact. This is an opportunity to grow your technical skills while contributing to mission-critical systems that support global Earth observation and remote sensing programs.
Responsibilities
  • Support the migration of physical and on-premises infrastructure to AWS cloud environments.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of tools for provisioning, monitoring, auditing, and de-provisioning AWS cloud infrastructure using automation tools.
  • Work closely with solution architects and engineers to implement secure, scalable, and cost-effective AWS cloud solutions.
  • Maintain and optimize CI/CD pipelines using industry-standard tools like GitLab Runners or similar.
  • Apply Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles using Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, or AWS CDK.
  • Support the configuration and automation of enterprise environments using tools like Ansible.
  • Troubleshoot and provide support for enterprise-based applications in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment.
  • Contribute to documentation and process improvements to enhance system reliability and efficiency.
  • Identify and implement AWS cloud cost optimization strategies, incorporating FinOps principles where applicable.
  • Participate in ongoing modernization efforts, refactoring and enhancing enterprise workloads to leverage industry best practices.
  • Collaborate within teams, participate in sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives, and deliver incremental value through iterative development.

Required Skills/Experience
  • Must have three years of continuous residency in the U.S. (required for government security credential).
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related technical field.
  • Associate-level certification in AWS (e.g., AWS Certified DevOps Engineer - Associate, AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate, AWS Certified Developer - Associate).
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in cloud engineering, DevOps, or related fields, with a focus on AWS technologies.
  • Hands-on experience with DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and automation.
  • Strong understanding of cloud security, networking, and best practices for AWS.
  • Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, AWS CDK, or AWS CloudFormation.
  • Experience with configuration management tools such as Ansible, Chef, or Puppet.
  • Scripting proficiency in Python, Bash, PowerShell, or similar for automation.
  • Demonstrated FinOps ability to reduce cloud spend through cost optimization strategies and practical implementation.
  • Experience implementing cost-effective, FinOps-aligned AWS cloud solutions.
  • Experience in automating and driving cost efficiencies in on-premises infrastructure.

Collaboration and Problem-Solving
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, navigate ambiguity, and deliver high-quality results under pressure.

Communication and Documentation
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present recommendations to technical teams.
  • Strong technical documentation skills for designing and implementing AWS cloud infrastructure.
  • Valid AWS Certified CloudOps Engineer - Associate certificate

Preferred Skills/Experience
  • Professional or Specialty certifications in AWS (e.g., AWS Certified Security - Specialty, AWS Certified Advanced Networking - Specialty, AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional).
