Overview
We are seeking a Sr. GIS Software Developer to join our team in Orlando, FL.
The GIS Developer will lead the development, enhancement, integration, and long-term technical evolution for the geospatial aspects of an enterprise asset management commercial software product. This role requires deep expertise in Esri software development technologies, modern software engineering practices, and spatial data management.
The successful candidate will serve as both a software developer and a geospatial technology subject matter expert, responsible for developing new features, maintaining existing functionality, evaluating emerging Esri technologies, and ensuring the product remains aligned with advancements across the Esri platform. This individual will actively monitor Esri product releases, software updates, and industry trends to assess the impact of new Esri capabilities or architecture changes on the software product and/or identify opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement.
Your role
As a Senior GIS Software Developer, you will:
  • Design, develop, test, and maintain geospatial software components for a commercial software platform.
  • Create and maintain integrations between Esri technologies and enterprise systems, databases, APIs, and third-party applications.
  • Collaborate with technical development, implementation and business stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions.
  • Contribute to solution architecture and technical design decisions.
  • Develop geospatial APIs, services and data processing pipelines.
  • Manage software enhancements throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Evaluate technical debt and identify modernization opportunities.
  • Participate in roadmap planning and provide recommendations regarding future technology investments.
  • Support software releases, testing, deployment, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Develop proof-of-concepts for emerging geospatial technologies.
  • Work within Agile delivery teams using modern DevOps practices.
  • Collaborate with clients, stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Contribute to technical proposals and innovation activities.
  • Complexity (Variety or uniqueness of tasks; relative difficulty or importance of work performed; size of unit supported, etc.): Work involves research, analysis, architecture, development, and problem solving on a variety of highly complex GIS software development issues. The role supports a critical product area where technical decisions may affect customer implementations, support efficiency, release quality, and future platform direction.
  • Decision-making (Supervision received; independent judgment or initiative; consequence of error): Works under the guidance of solution architect and product manager with assignments provided in terms of broad objectives, product priorities, customer needs, and delivery expectations. Acts independently on technical matters pertaining to GIS development, implementation approaches, defect resolution, support escalation, and release readiness within areas of expertise. Errors in judgment may result in delayed releases, customer support impacts, implementation rework, product instability, or increased operational dependency on senior technical resources.
  • Work direction given to others (Titles and number of personnel; type of direction given): May coordinate work of other developers or support staff for GIS development assignments, releases, architecture initiatives, and customer escalations.
  • Internal contacts (Required interaction/relationship with others within the organization): Interfaces with technical managers, product leaders, software developers, QA teams, implementation teams, technical support, business development resources, proposal teams, and administrative staff as necessary. Collaborates with leadership and product stakeholders on process improvement, platform roadmap considerations, and customer-impacting technical decisions.
  • External contacts (Required interaction/relationship with others outside the organization): May represent the organization in technical discussions with clients, prospective clients, partners, subconsultants, user groups, and conference or webinar audiences. Provides technical clarification for proposals, RFIs, demonstrations, and customer engagement activities related to mobile platform functionality, constraints, configuration, and future capability planning.

About you
  • B.S. or B.A. in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Engineering, GIS, or a related discipline, or equivalent directly relevant experience in enterprise software and GIS development. Non-degreed practitioners must demonstrate substantial direct experience in GIS software development, enterprise systems, and technical leadership. Typical incumbent has 10+ years' experience or equivalent depth with 3+ years of hands-on experience developing applications on the Esri platform.
  • Professional registrations: Industry-recognized technical certification, cloud/platform certification, software architecture certification, GIS certification, technical paper, award, or professional registration in the case of incumbents with Engineering degrees is desired.
  • Special skills : Candidate should have strong knowledge of GIS principles, geospatial data models, and spatial analysis techniques and experience with JavaScript / TypeScript, .NET / C#, RESTful APIs, SQL Server, PostgreSQL/PostGIS, Cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud), experience developing applications using ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS Online, experience integrating geospatial capabilities into enterprise business applications.
