Job description

The Process Control Specialist is responsible for providing process control leadership in support of the reliable operation and continuous improvement at the Bishop Plant. This role is responsible for providing reliable DCS operation in the areas of hardware and software support, including upgrades, backups, and performance tracking. This role works alongside other Process Control resources to provide daily control system troubleshooting, optimization, and improvement for the production units.
Responsibilities:
Primary Functions
  • Point of contact for day-to-day controls optimization and improvement
  • Provide support and assistance for plant DCS systems as needed to support operations
  • Support capital and expense projects, as needed, for plant improvements including design and implementation
  • Support engineers, operations and maintenance technicians in troubleshooting production unit issues
  • Troubleshoot and repair hardware, software, and process control issues
  • Schedule and complete software backups and PM's, as needed, including ensuring that system backup files are kept in compliance with plant guidelines
  • Assist in the development of operating procedures and Operations training
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science Engineering Degree (Electrical, Electronic, Computer Science or Chemical desired) from an accredited university, OR 3 years Honeywell TDC-3000 or Experion Control systems experience equivalent
  • At least 5 years working in a manufacturing plant environment
  • Strong analytical & troubleshooting skills, with demonstrated ability to identify and resolve issues through monitoring of performance trends
  • Knowledge of DCS hardware and software support, including upgrades, backups, performance tracking, and administration and security
  • Ability to train Operations staff in system, to achieve effective utilization of the DCS
  • Maintain an on-call schedule with Process Control peers to provide after-hours troubleshooting support as needed

Preferred Knowledge / Skills / Experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills with the ability to communicate effectively to all levels of an organization
  • High level of ownership and initiative
  • Experience working on instrumentation and control systems common to manufacturing industry (flow meters, pressure indicators, control valves)
  • Experience in identification and troubleshooting of instrumentation, DCS, and interface malfunctions
  • Experience in troubleshooting and repairing computer or control system hardware
  • Ability to read and understand basic logic and loop diagrams
  • Familiarity with manufacturing operations (chemical, refining, etc.) and associated safe work practices
  • Knowledge in management of change work processes
