If you are looking for a career in construction, we offer paid summer internship opportunities at the following office locations (Bakersfield, Brea, San Diego, Santa Fe Springs) and also at some of our project sites in our Southern and Central California regions. Our Summer Internship Program is very learning intensive, so students can expect to do challenging work and to engage in activities that will broaden their awareness of the great career opportunities in heavy civil construction and with Griffith Company.

What you can expect
As a summer intern you can expect to handle a variety of real world tasks in support of our Project Managers, Estimators, Project Engineers and or field personnel. Below is an example of intern responsibilities:
  • Perform job site administration and documentation (under supervision).
  • Assist in developing and maintaining a Critical Path Method (CPM) schedule.
  • Track 1 or more of the following: submittals, RFI's and contract change orders, daily cost vs. project budget, quantities and equipment and project logs.
  • Attend bid review meetings with estimating team to understand the estimate process.
  • Review proposal specifications, drawings, soils reports and existing site conditions to determine scope of work.
  • Complete material and quantity take offs according to project scope of work.
  • Assist superintendent and foreman with layout and other technical requirements.
  • Assist with diesel emissions control plans and monitoring.
  • Preparation of work plans and or storm water protection plans.
  • Perform additional assignments per supervisor's direction

You will be given as much responsibility as you are willing to accept.
In addition to what you learn from your day-to-day duties, you will have opportunities to learn from a 1-on-1 meeting with 1 of our top company executives, information sessions with our Division Managers, visits to 2-3 of our construction projects, a day of training for our interns, access to potential mentors and more.
After a successful experience, you will gain a competitive advantage towards future employment. In addition, the experience you gain from this internship will help you further define your career goals, illuminate your academic studies and strengthen your preparation for a career in our industry.
Qualifications
Students must be currently pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in one of the following areas or a very similar area:
  • Civil Engineering
  • Construction Management
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Mathematics

Hourly Wage Range
$22.00 - $27.00 (depending on internship and educational experience).
