Role Overview

The Engineer I - Packaged Equipment position is responsible for developing mechanical system design packages for gas turbine and steam turbine auxiliary equipment supporting Mitsubishi Power's projects across the Americas. This role works closely with internal engineering teams and external vendors to ensure packaged equipment meets applicable code, contract, quality, and schedule requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop mechanical system design packages for gas turbine and steam turbine auxiliary equipment.
  • Interpret P&IDs and technical documentation to define system and project requirements.
  • Prepare engineering calculations to ensure proper equipment sizing and system performance.
  • Prepare inquiry and purchase specifications for packaged mechanical equipment.
  • Provide technical evaluations and recommendations for vendor selection.
  • Review vendor designs to ensure compliance with codes, contracts, and internal standards.
  • Ensure arrangement layouts and foundation interface data meet project requirements.
  • Support technical qualification of equipment vendors.
  • Review and analyze factory and site test results.
  • Develop and maintain standard drawings and specifications.
  • Identify and implement design improvements and costreduction opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain engineering deliverable schedules.
  • Coordinate regularly with vendors to ensure technical and schedule alignment.
  • Respond to technical inquiries from customers, vendors, and field personnel.
  • Interpret and integrate design requirements from parent company engineering teams.
  • Establish processes and procedures to optimize resource utilization and design quality.
  • Ensure applicable codes and standards are correctly incorporated into system designs and vendor requirements.
  • Provide regular technical and schedule status updates to management.
  • Interpret customer contract requirements and ensure proper design incorporation.
  • Establish corrective actions to reduce nonconformance and improve product quality.
  • Prepare technical correspondence with vendors and internal engineering groups.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering required.
  • Zero to three years of professional engineering experience.
  • Experience specifying rotating equipment such as pumps, compressors, or fans is a plus.
  • Experience with static equipment including vessels, heat exchangers, filters, or separators is a plus.
  • Experience with packaged equipment or skid systems is a plus.
  • Exposure to design and application of packaged systems including piping, instrumentation, electrical, and equipment preferred.
  • Background from EPC firms, OEMs, skid manufacturers, or power generation environments preferred.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical documentation and regulations in English.
  • Ability to prepare technical reports, correspondence, and presentations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and engineering documentation tools.
  • Willingness to work in a multicultural environment and collaborate across global teams.
  • Ability to travel up to 20% as required.
