Market Specialist Account Manager (Major Accounts - Federal)
Alabama Power Company - Major Accounts Commercial and Industrial

WORK LOCATION & TRAVEL

  • This position is flexible to be based out of Birmingham (APC Corp HQ) or in the Southern Division (Montgomery) or in Southeast Division (Enterprise / Ozark) or Eastern Division (Anniston) areas
  • No relocation assistance will be available
  • Some travel will be required (mostly day-trip) - approximately 50%
     

POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for achieving net income growth within the assigned customer group through energy and non-energy products and services while achieving top quartile customer satisfaction results.   The position will be responsible for developing Account Management skills while working with the assigned Customer Group.    The successful candidate will be located in the Birmingham, Southern, Eastern or Southeast Division and will work with large Federal customers in the Chemical Large Commercial segment.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Business, Marketing, or a related field is highly preferred

Experience:

  • Experience working with federal and military customers will be beneficial to understand their processes, developing solutions to resolve issues, whether technical, billing or otherwise is required.
  • Experience in Marketing and/or Power Delivery - Transmission and/or Distribution is desired.  Relevant experience in similar roles outside Alabama Power may also be considered (i.e. government, military, heavy industrial, etc.).
  • Experience and/or working knowledge of the GSA Areawide and its Exhibits, Utility Privatization contract or process, Federal UESC, ESPC, and/or other energy-related contracting mechanisms is desired.
  • Familiarity with federal government energy efficiency, renewable energy, resilience, contracting policies, and federal acquisition regulations (FARS) is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must have the ability to identify, promote and close sales opportunities, communicate ideas, and successfully negotiate business deals for the assigned customer base.
  • The successful candidate should be self-motivated, strategic, responsive to the customer and capable of dealing with conflict effectively.
  • Must have the ability to work across functional areas within an operating company and/or other Southern Company affiliates to achieve positive results for the customer while increasing APC net income.
  • Must have a proven record of achieving results.
  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 50% of the time.
     

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage assigner Major Account Federal customers located in Alabama Power's service territory.
  • Ensure net income growth of profitable revenue through sales of energy and non-energy products and services with Federal Services Team while achieving top quartile results in the NPS survey or its successor in function.
  • Effectively communicate customer information, events and issues to Major Accounts and leadership as appropriate.
  • Support the Segment Managers and Director, Major Accounts with Oracle Sales Cloud including inputting opportunities / leads, developing, and managing the necessary reports.
  • Working knowledge of, or willingness to learn APC Rates and Pricing to effectively prepare rate analysis', bill estimates, answer general questions regarding APC rates and make recommendations from the analysis.
  • Develop the depth and breadth of customer contacts at the local facilities and identify project decision makers both locally and federally.
  • Having the capacity to work multiple with multiple customers and assisting in the development of projects will be a significant portion of the job, requiring coordination across several departments within APC and SCS to ensure the successful completion of projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for presenting service proposals, reliability concerns and issues, sales correspondence, proposals, and potential/future rate impacts.
  • Commitment to operate with the highest level of ethics and integrity with colleagues and clients.
