Job Title: CNC Nester

Job Description:

A member of the fabrication team responsible for tooling parts and nesting to automate power driven machines. These machines cut and finish materials necessary to supply manufacturing or service products with the parts needed for customer orders.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND ACTIVITIES:

  • Reviews 3D CAD design blueprints for accuracy
  • Translates instructions into a computer automated manufacturing (CAM) program.
  • Communicates with engineers and Machine Operators who will use the programs.
  • Checks completed programs by running simulations or tests.
  • Prepares layouts of nests using proper software.
  • Determines sequence of operations in a program.
  • Chooses cutting tools that will be needed.
  • Analyzes job order and performs necessary calculations.
  • Writes programs and modifies existing ones for increased efficiency.
  • Analyzes and selects speeds and cutting tools for programs.
  • Makes improvements to set up times for a task and contouring of complex shapes.
  • Simplifies tooling time for workers and increases productivity for the client.
  • Monitors all programs to make sure they follow blueprint instructions and safely and successfully complete the task
  • Supports and participates in Morgan Olson’s PPS team efforts.
  • Adheres to Quality policy by exceeding customer expectations, being customer focused and supporting continuous improvement activities.
  • Adheres to Safety policies and practices behavioral based safety 100% of the time.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Preferred: Associate degree in CNC programming, a computer-related field, or a mechanical field.
  • Knowledge of electronics and machine tools. 
  • 1-2 years of programming experience.
  • Ability to write and read complex spreadsheets and blueprints.
  • Prepares geometric layout (nesting layouts)
  • Proficient in:
    • Excel
    • Word
    • Solid works
    • Auto cad
    • Inventor (preferred not required)
  • Also:
    • Must be highly detail-oriented with the ability to work effectively with little or no supervision.
    • Must have good problem-solving skills. Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Must have good organizational and planning skills
    • Must be mechanically inclined and have knowledge of metal shop work.
