Develop the Next Generation of Grid Operations Professionals System as an Operational Instructor!

Start: ASAP | Location: Scottsdale, AZ - work is hybrid so MUST be local for consideration | Pay Rate: $60.00 - $85.52/hr | Shift: 1st Shift | 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM | Contract Length: 12 months to start, likely to extend
PDS Tech Commercial is seeking a Operational Instructor to support Transmission and Generation Operations (TGO) team. In this critical role, you'll design, develop, implement, and evaluate training programs that ensure System Operators remain qualified and compliant with industry regulations while supporting the safe and reliable operation of the electrical grid.
This position is ideal for candidates with experience in system operations, operator training, NERC compliance, and instructional design.
Key Responsibilities
Training Program Development

  • Utilize the Systematic Approach to Training (SAT) and the ADDIE methodology (Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, Evaluate).

  • Design and develop training programs for Transmission and Generation Operations personnel.

  • Create lesson plans, learning objectives, training materials, assessments, and evaluations.

  • Develop instructor guides, student guides, handouts, and presentations.


Compliance & Regulatory Training

  • Ensure operators are trained on:

    • NERC Standards

    • WECC Standards

    • FERC Orders

    • Operational applications and tools

  • Maintain compliance documentation and training records.

  • Support regulatory readiness and audit requirements.


Training Needs Analysis

  • Identify operational training needs and performance gaps.

  • Conduct Training Needs Analyses and recommend solutions.

  • Evaluate training effectiveness and implement improvements based on feedback.


Operations Support

  • Participate in TGO meetings and special projects.

  • Conduct operational studies and reviews.

  • Assist with procedure development and technical reporting.

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to support operational excellence.


Required Qualifications
Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution

OR

  • Equivalent combination of education and experience with a minimum of 3 years of direct experience training System Operators

Certification

  • Active NERC Certification

OR

  • Previously NERC Certified

OR

  • Willingness and ability to obtain NERC Certification within six months of hire


Preferred Skills

  • Experience training electric utility or transmission system operators

  • Knowledge of:

    • NERC Reliability Standards

    • WECC Compliance Requirements

    • FERC Regulations

    • Transmission and Generation Operations

  • Strong instructional design and curriculum development experience
