Job Summary The City of Beverly Hills is offering $45,000 Signing Bonus for qualified lateral police officers. What We're Looking for The City of Beverly Hills Police Department is seeking highly motivated and qualified candidates for the position of Lateral Police Officer.
The lateral Police Officer perform duties to protect life and property within the city. Maintains law and order and respond to emergency calls. May patrol the city enforcing the criminal and traffic laws of the city, state and nation.
Performs background investigations, or perform training duties. Distinguishing Characteristics This is the full working class in law enforcement. Incumbents appointed to this class will have related work experience and will possess law enforcement training.
Initially, incumbents will be assigned to patrol and work under close supervision, performing the more routine duties assigned to positions in this class. However, as experience is gained, incumbents are expected to perform the full range of duties as assigned with increasing independence. Special assignments in police-related functions (within or outside of patrol) may be available to experienced incumbents, depending on the needs of the department.
Appointment to a special assignment is at the discretion of the Police Chief. The Police Officer is distinguished from the Police Sergeant in that the latter serves as the first line supervisor and has responsibility for the development, coordination, and evaluation of sworn personnel that are part of a work shift, division, or bureau. Background Check A thorough background check, including a polygraph, will be conducted on the successful candidate: Upon the completion of final interviews, the selected candidate will receive a multi-page "In-depth Personal History Form" (intensive background form) and Pre-Investigative Questionnaire which are required to be completed and returned at the time of the initial meeting with a background investigator. Failure to supply the information requested results in an automatic disqualification.
In addition to the background investigation, applicant is required to undergo a pre-employment polygraph examination. A qualified polygraph examiner employed by the City of Beverly Hills Police Department administers the test. The polygraph examination is designed to show an applicant as being "truthful." All of the questions posed to the applicant during the examination are discussed with the applicant prior to the actual testing
An extensive background investigation will be undertaken which consists of personal contacts and phone contacts with listed references, school teachers, administrators, employers, co-workers, neighbors, unlisted references that can be located, spouse, ex-spouses and friends. Additionally, an applicant's current financial institution will be checked, past credit history will be examined, social media accounts, criminal history checks will be made. Proof of Education If educational units, a degree, transcripts, or certificate is required, upload a copy of any license(s), official/unofficial transcript(s), degrees, and/or related employment documents to your Government Jobs account at the time of application and before the closing date unless specified otherwise by Human Resources.

Minimum Qualifications Experience and Training: Experience specified in one of the tracks listed below: Track 1: Graduation from an accredited California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) academy and currently employed in good standing with a California law enforcement agency as a sworn police officer. Receipt of the POST Basic certificate is required on or before the completion of the first year of employment as a sworn police officer. Track 2: Employed as a sworn police officer within the last three years and eligible for re-hire.
Possession of the POST Basic certificate. Out-of-state officers must complete the POST Basic Course waiver process prior to application. Training specified in one of the tracks listed below: Track 1: At least 36 semester units (or 54 quarter units) from an accredited college or university at the time of application.
