QA/QC Manager
Lead project quality for a premier mechanical subcontractor working in nuclear, DOE, and other high security construction environments. This role is responsible for planning, implementing, and managing project quality programs that ensure work meets codes, specifications, and customer expectations. You will lead inspection teams, coordinate NDE, manage submittals, and serve as the primary quality liaison to customers and regulators.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and manage the Project QA/QC Program in accordance with nuclear and high security requirements and company quality standards.
- Lead QA/QC staff by assigning tasks, mentoring inspectors, and overseeing performance and development.
- Plan, perform, and document inspections including dimensional, visual, weld, installation, equipment, piping, and other required checks.
- Coordinate subcontractor and vendor quality to ensure compliance with project requirements and integrate inspection activities across all participants.
- Manage NDE activities including scheduling, documentation, acceptance review, and coordination with NDE providers.
- Prepare and track QC technical submittals and drive timely approvals from customer representatives.
- Serve as primary quality liaison to the customer for meetings, audits, assessments, and day to day quality matters.
- Perform receiving inspections of materials and equipment to verify conformance with purchase orders and specifications.
- Analyze quality trends and implement corrective and preventive actions to improve performance.
- Support project closeout by assembling turnover documentation, maintaining quality records, and facilitating final acceptance.
Required Skills and Attributes
- AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) required. Additional certifications such as NDE Level II/III, ASNT, or API are preferred.
- Strong knowledge of codes and standards including ASME, AWS, and other applicable nuclear or high security requirements.
- Leadership and supervision skills with the ability to manage QA/QC teams and influence cross functional project teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication for clear reporting, submittal preparation, and customer interaction.
- Technical interpretation skills to apply drawings, specifications, procedures, and regulatory requirements to field conditions.
- Organizational and time management skills to manage multiple priorities and maintain rigorous documentation.
- Professionalism and diplomacy when collaborating with customers, inspectors, suppliers, and project teams.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office with emphasis on Excel and Project for reporting and schedule integration.
Education and Experience
- Education: Bachelor degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Quality Management, or related field preferred; equivalent job experience accepted.
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of quality experience in construction, industrial, mechanical, or nuclear/high security environments.
- Regulated program experience: Prior work under NQA-1, Navy Nuclear, DOE, or similar regulated quality programs is highly desirable.
