Description
Jackson State University, an NCAA Division I (FCS) member of the NCAA and Southwestern Athletic Conference and one of the leading institutions of higher education in the region, is accepting applications for the position of Academic Advisor.
Examples of Duties
Specific duties and responsibilities associated with this position shall include, but are not limited to:
• Serve as academic advisor to assigned sports in accordance with Jackson State University, SWAC, and NCAA rules.
• Meet with recruits and their families by providing an overview of various academic services.
• Monitor progress toward degree requirements of student-athletes pursuant to NCAA rules and regulations.
• Assist with eligibility certification in assigned sports in coordination with compliance support staff.
• Assist with the admissions and orientation process.
• Work with faculty and coaches, as needed, to monitor class attendance and study hall attendance.
• Monitor academic performance and progress toward the degree.
• Develop academic status reports for coaches and administrators.
• Maintain student academic files.
• Track NCAA academic eligibility of student-athletes.
• Evaluate transcripts of incoming transfer students and determine if they meet their NCAA eligibility requirements prior to enrollment into the institution.
• Create detailed academic reports at the end of each academic semester, summarizing the performance of all student-athletes of the University.
• Evaluate high school transcripts of prospective student-athletes and work with the coaches, high schools, and NCAA Eligibility Center to ensure that student-athletes are on track to meet NCAA eligibility requirements.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree is required; a Master's Degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of one to three (1-3) years of work experience is required.
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
