Job description


We are looking for anexperienced Assistant Controller tojoin our Corporate Accountingteam in Surrey, British Columbia. Reportingto the Western Regional Controller,you will oversee the financial administration of assigneddivisions and operations acrossWestern Canada and serve as a trusted, dependableright-hand partner to the Controller. Thisis a hands-on business-partnering role that requires you to learn how theoperations work, build trusted relationships with operational leaders, andspend regular time in the field at assigned sites. You will translate financialinformation into practical business insights, identify opportunities toautomate and streamline processes, and help strengthen the efficiency,accuracy, and scalability of the finance function. You will also lead month-endreporting, reconciliations, financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, auditsupport, special projects, and a finance team of approximately five to sevenemployees.

KeyResponsibilities       Leadand coordinate the financial administration of assigned divisions andoperations.       Preparetimely monthly financial statements, variance analysis, and commentary forsenior leadership and Corporate Accounting.       Managemonth-end close activities, including balance sheet and intercompanyreconciliations, bank reporting, and supporting schedules.       Maintainaccurate accounting records in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central anddevelop production, statistical, and financial reporting tools in Excel.       Evaluateand implement automation tools, system capabilities, and standardized workflowsto reduce manual effort, eliminate duplication, strengthen controls, andimprove the speed and accuracy of financial processes and reporting.       Serveas the Controller's trusted right-hand partner by anticipating needs, helpingmanage priorities, resolving issues, supporting key decisions, and providingreliable leadership coverage when required.       Supportannual audits, budgets, forecasts, strategic initiatives, and special projectsin close partnership with the Regional Controller.       Preparemunicipal invoices, revenue-share schedules, HST filings, Statistics Canadareports, and other required financial reports.       Overseevendor invoice processing, customer collections, and related accounts payableand accounts receivable activities.        Act as a trusted finance business partner tooperational leaders by providing practical financial insight, challengingassumptions, and identifying opportunities to improve profitability andbusiness performance.       Spendregular time in the field at assigned operating sites to learn the business,understand operational processes and cost drivers, and connect financialresults to day-to-day activities.       Buildstrong relationships with site leaders and frontline teams, using fieldobservations and operational knowledge to improve forecasts, reporting,controls, and decision-making.       Lead,coach, and develop a team of approximately five to seven finance employees bysetting expectations, delegating work, monitoring performance, and providingregular feedback and training.       Buildeffective working relationships with employees, vendors, clients, and municipalcontacts.       Preparead hoc analysis and reports, and perform other related duties as assigned.Qualificationsand Experience       CPAdesignation and Bachelor's in business or finance.       Sevento ten years of progressive accounting experience in a fast-paced,deadline-driven environment, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership centricrole.       Demonstratedpeople leadership and supervisory experience, including coaching, performancemanagement, and team development.       Strongknowledge of month-end close, financial reporting, reconciliations, budgeting,forecasting, and audit support.       AdvancedMicrosoft Excel skills and strong proficiency with Microsoft Office.       Experiencewith accounting software; Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central experience isstrongly preferred.       Demonstratedexperience using automation, reporting, workflow, or data tools to simplifyfinance processes, improve efficiency, and enhance the quality of businessinformation.       Experiencewith RTA Fleet Management Software, Navusoft, or Materials Manager isconsidered an asset.       Excellentorganizational, analytical, time-management, and problem-solving skills       Strongcommunication, relationship-building, and business-partnering skills, with thecuriosity and operational mindset to learn the business and influence decisionsacross all levels of the organization.       Aproactive, resourceful, and highly dependable approach, with the judgment andinitiative to anticipate the Controller's needs, take ownership, and followissues through to resolution.       Abilityto manage competing priorities, meet tight deadlines, and follow through oncommitments.        Willingness and ability to travel regularly toassigned operating sites and spend time in field environments as part oflearning and supporting the business.What WeOffer       Company-paidEmployee Assistance Program.       Tuitionreimbursement and professional development support.       Opportunityto contribute within an entrepreneurial, growth-focused organization.       Meaningfulwork with the ability to influence business performance and positiveenvironmental outcomes.      Opportunity to join one of Canada's Greenest Employers.Ready toApply?
