What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a navigation engineer?

To thrive as a Navigation Engineer (Remote), you need a strong background in navigation algorithms, sensor fusion, and a relevant engineering degree such as electrical, aerospace, or computer engineering. Familiarity with tools like MATLAB, GNSS simulation software, and programming languages such as Python or C++ is typically required, along with experience using version control systems. Excellent problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and strong communication skills are vital for collaborating effectively in distributed teams. These competencies ensure the development of accurate, reliable navigation solutions and seamless integration within multidisciplinary, remote environments.

What are some common challenges navigation engineers face when working remotely, and how can they overcome them?

Navigation Engineers working remotely often encounter challenges such as coordinating real-time data exchange with on-site teams, troubleshooting hardware-related issues from a distance, and maintaining seamless communication across time zones. To overcome these hurdles, it's important to utilize robust collaboration tools, establish clear protocols for data sharing, and schedule regular check-ins with team members. Developing strong written and verbal communication skills also helps ensure project requirements and system updates are clearly understood by all stakeholders.

What is a navigation engineer?

A Navigation Engineer (Remote) is a professional who designs, develops, and maintains navigation systems, often for vehicles, aircraft, or maritime applications, while working from a remote location. Job description

Job Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated Senior Electrical Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will have a strong background in electric power transmission and delivery and a passion for innovation. The candidate must possess strong organizational and communication skills critical to working with diverse teams in a primarily remote work environment. This role involves significant collaboration with client teams and offers considerable latitude for independent judgment and action related to program objectives.

Responsibilities

Transmission Planning: Conduct load flow, stability, short-circuit, and voltage analyses to evaluate long-term transmission expansion and grid reliability.

Capacity Planning: Develop load forecasting models and analyze the integration of renewable energy, Distributed Energy Resources (DERs), and high-demand loads (e.g., data centers).

Compliance & Studies: Navigate ISO/RTO interconnection processes. Maintain NERC and FERC compliance. Perform contingency analysis (N-1, N-1-1) and craft practical solutions like reconductoring, RAS (Remedial Action Schemes).

Technical Leadership: Prepare typical technical reports and represent the organization in regional planning and strategy roles.

Strategic Advisory: Translate highly technical load flow results, thermal limits, and stability analyses into clear business risks, timeline impacts, and financial options for non-technical executives or investors.

Qualifications:

· Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field

· 7+ years of power systems engineering experience, with a proven track record at a major utility, ISO/RTO, or specialized power delivery consultancy. Electric utility capacity planning and operations experience preferred.

· Proficiency in relevant software and tools (e.g., MS Office, GIS, PowerWorld Simulator, ETAP-G or other Energy Management Systems, PLS-CADD), alongside scripting skills (Python, MATLAB) for automating large-scale analysis and modeling.

· Ability to read construction documents, including drawings, specifications and RFPs 5.

· Valid driver's license.
