Maintenance Technician – Biogas Upgrading & Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) Plant

Position Summary

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient maintenance of equipment used in the production and upgrading of biogas into pipeline-quality Renewable Natural Gas (RNG). This position performs preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and process control systems while supporting continuous plant operations.

The ideal candidate is an energetic, self-motivated, safety-focused individual with strong troubleshooting skills and experience working in industrial process facilities such as wastewater treatment, oil and gas, chemical processing, power generation, mill,  food processing, or renewable energy.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on biogas processing and RNG upgrading equipment.
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain:
    • Pumps
    • Compressors
    • Blowers
    • Grinders
    • Heat exchangers
    • Valves and actuators
    • Gas upgrader, dryers and filtration systems
    • Pressure vessels
    • Instrumentation and analyzers
    • Boilers
  • Maintain gas upgrading systems.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and instrumentation issues.
  • Perform equipment alignments, bearing replacements, seal replacements, lubrication, and vibration inspections.
  • Install and replace motors, gearboxes, pumps, piping components, and process equipment.
  • Assist with calibration and maintenance of transmitters, pressure sensors, flow meters, gas analyzers, and control valves.
  • Support PLC and SCADA troubleshooting with controls personnel.
  • Complete work orders and maintenance documentation using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Participate in plant shutdowns, equipment overhauls, and capital improvement projects.
  • Maintain spare parts inventory and recommend replacement components.
  • Follow all Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space, hot work, and permit-required safety procedures.
  • Respond to equipment failures during scheduled and emergency call-outs as required.
  • Maintain excellent housekeeping standards throughout the facility.
  • Work closely with operations personnel & facility engineer to maximize equipment reliability and plant uptime.
  • Participate in the monthly Safety Committee meeting

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 5 years of industrial maintenance experience.
  • Experience with rotating equipment and industrial process systems.
  • Welding and fabrication
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings, P&IDs, electrical schematics, and equipment manuals.
  • Experience using precision measuring tools and alignment equipment.
  • Working knowledge of pumps, compressors, valves, bearings, seals, and industrial piping systems.
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office and CMMS software.
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience at industrial processing facilities , biogas, RNG, wastewater, landfill gas, natural gas, chemical, power generation or mills. 
  • Instrumentation and controls experience.
  • Vibration analysis or predictive maintenance experience.
  • Forklift, aerial lift, and rigging experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple maintenance tasks.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Commitment to safety, environmental compliance, and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work in changing weather conditions and industrial environments.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Climb ladders, stairs, tanks, and elevated platforms.
  • Work in confined spaces and at heights.
  • Stand, kneel, crouch, bend, and climb for extended periods.
  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Wear required PPE including hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, FR clothing, gloves, respirator, and safety footwear.

Work Schedule

  • Full-time position.
  • May require rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, overtime, and on-call responsibilities.
  • Occasional travel for training or equipment support may be required.
