The Territory Development Representative is a front-end Nationwide Financial sales role focused on outbound advisor development. The person goes through strong paid training, earns licenses, and then becomes one of the first points of contact for financial professionals. Success comes from high outreach activity, strong discovery skills, and the ability to qualify interest and hand opportunities to the right internal wholesaling team. The best candidates tend to come from inside sales, financial services, insurance, banking, or other high-volume consultative outreach environments."

Key Objectives for this role:

  • Understand the makeup of each advisor's book of business

  • Gauge their interest in offering Nationwide Financial products

As a Sr. Analyst, Territory Development Representative (TDR), you'll complete a 3-month paid in-house training program covering Nationwide's full product portfolio across Life Insurance, Annuities, Retirement Services, and Mutual Funds/ETFs. Once licensed, you'll serve as the front line of Nationwide's wholesaling engine - engaging prospective financial professionals, identifying product fit, and qualifying and transitioning interested advisors to the appropriate internal wholesaling teams for deeper consultation.
This is a high-volume, outbound role. You will be one of the first voices a financial professional hears from Nationwide, and your success is measured by your ability to generate qualified interest and execute smooth, timely handoffs.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts outbound outreach to prospective financial professionals across targeted territory lists, introducing Nationwide's product lines - Life Insurance, Long-Term Care, Annuities (FIA, MYGA, VA), Retirement Plan Services, and Mutual Funds/ETFs.

  • Quickly assesses advisor business focus, client demographics, and product interest to determine which Nationwide line of business is the most relevant fit.

  • Qualifies advisor leads and executes timely, well-documented handoffs to the appropriate Regional Internal Consultant (RIC) or internal wholesaling team for follow-up and deeper product engagement.

  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date activity records, lead dispositions, and pipeline notes within our Salesforce CRM to ensure seamless transitions to downstream wholesaling teams.

  • Partners with RICs and potentially Regional Vice Presidents (RVPs) across multiple lines of business to align outreach priorities and territory coverage strategies.

  • Achieves scorecard metrics including outbound activity volume, lead qualification rate, handoff quality, product knowledge benchmarks, and professional development goals.

  • Provides territory coverage support in the absence of a RIC as needed.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to Manager or Director.

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: Undergraduate degree in finance, sales, business, marketing, or a related field preferred.

License/Certification/Designation:Successful completion of in-house training program; FINRA SIE, Series 6, Series 63, and State Life/Annuity Insurance Agent licenses required within 120 days of hire.

Experience: Relevant sales, financial services, or customer-facing experience preferred. Prior experience in a high-volume outbound or lead generation role is a plus.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Ability to quickly build credibility in a single conversation and communicate product value concisely. Strong active listening and needs-identification skills. Comfort operating in a high-activity, metric-driven environment. Ability to triage advisor interest across multiple product lines and route appropriately. Organized, process-oriented, and receptive to coaching. Excellent verbal communication skills and professional presence. Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain CRM discipline.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.

Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager's leader and Human Resource Business Partner.
