Safety Management Group is a nationally recognized professional service organization that provides workplace safety consulting, training, staffing, program planning, and implementation. SMG seeks a local Safety Advisor - Construction in the Indianapolis, Indiana area.

The key function of a Safety Advisor is to put safety at the forefront of their job, prioritize the client's needs, work well in a team setting, be self-managed, and be flexible when it comes to change. This person will be responsible for implementing contractor safety management. 

Additional Information

  • SMG full-time, benefitted Associates are eligible for Premium Pay after working 40 billable hours for the week. Premium pay is at a 1.35 multiplier. 
  • This person will travel to locations in Indianapolis and West lafayette. They will be in Indianapolis for 3 days and 1 day in Lafayette. Anticipated schedule is Mon-Thursday, 40 plus hours per week. Possibly 5 hours remote on Fridays.
  • Annual pay/merit review/increase.


Overview of Job Responsibilities:

  • Acquire expert knowledge of the Management Standard Construction & Installation Projects Design, Planning, & Management. Guide designer, and main contractor stakeholders through the MS-18 framework
  • Site safety observations, including documentation of findings
  • Actively participate in pre-bid, pre-construction, progress, owner, event review, safety teams, daily coordination, stand-down's, and other HSE related requests
  • Facilitates corrective measures were warranted
  • Represents the contractor or Owner in progress meetings
  • Verifies compliance with safety policies and procedures as required by law, the Owner or contractor
  • Provides incident management and support
  • Interact with craftspeople and promote a safe working culture
  • Documentation and Report preparation
  • Conducts Contractor program review


Requirements

  • 5+ years of previous Construction Safety experience
  • Bachelor's degree in safety or related fields preferred
  • BCSP Certifications is a plus: CSP, CHST
  • Safety Program Development Experience
  • Demonstrated Safety Leadership
  • Technical Construction understanding
  • Ability to engage professionally with clients and contractors

Physical Demands of the job may include:

  • Moving about long distances
  • Ascending/Descending stairs and ladders
  • Remaining in a stationary position for a prolonged period
  • Working in extreme weather
  • Being exposed to loud noises
  • Wearing personal protective gear correctly
