Summary

BlueLinx is seeking a driven Outside Sales Representative – National Retail to manage existing national retail relationships while aggressively growing new revenue within the region. This role requires a true hunter mentality motivated by uncovering new opportunities, expanding partnerships, and driving profitable growth.

The ideal candidate is confident calling on national retailers, engaging previous customers, developing new revenue streams, and strengthening established accounts. Relationship building is critical to success in this role. This position offers a competitive base salary plus commission structure.

What You’ll Do:

  • Identify new sales opportunities with both new and existing national retail customers, with a focus on program business.
  • Maximize sales effectiveness by prioritizing time and effort on the largest and most profitable opportunities, including segmentation of account lists.
  • Improve overall profitability, product penetration, and product mix across assigned accounts.
  • Qualify sales opportunities through market and customer research and collaboration with insider sales partners.
  • Develop sales solutions and competitive pricing strategies; articulate value propositions to customers.
  • Present and propose sales solutions to customers and adjust strategies as needed based on customer feedback and market conditions.
  • Close sales opportunities by securing purchase orders and ensuring all order fulfillment procedures are executed accurately.
  • Provide outstanding post‑sale service and support to ensure long‑term customer satisfaction and repeat business.

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent industry experience strongly preferred.
  • 0–2 years of experience in a sales role with responsibility for growing accounts and generating new business.
  • Ability to manage an existing book of business while expanding partnerships.
  • Building materials or related industry experience is a plus.
  • Strong market knowledge, product familiarity, and consultative selling skills.
  • Demonstrated “hunter” mentality with a strong drive for results.
  • Excellent planning, organization, communication, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills.
  • Working knowledge of account management, customer service, product pricing, sales support, warehousing, distribution, and transportation.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and relevant sales systems and technology.
  • Strong telephone and communication skills with the ability to identify needs, evaluate solutions, and recommend action.
