The Health and Safety Manager provides leadership, guidance, andΒ expertiseΒ to business units in the development and implementation of health and safety strategies, standards, policies, and processes.Β You willΒ ensure compliance with legislative requirements andΒ facilitateΒ the effective use of the Health & Safety Management System (HSMS).Β 

In this role,Β you willΒ equip line management and field personnel with the necessary tools, information, and awareness to address health and safety concerns proactively. Through expert guidance and support,Β you willΒ work to mitigate risks, prevent occupational injuries and illnesses, and foster a strong culture of workplace safety.

Requirements

Your Role & Impact:Β 

Safety LeadershipΒ 

  • Ensure implementation and continuous improvement of safety, health andΒ lossΒ control processes and systems within the assigned regional areas.Β 
  • Participate in the effective development, delivery and implementation of health & safety policies, programs and communications that support the implementation of the Health, Safety and Environment Improvement Plan (HSE-IP) across the business units within scope.Β 

Safety ProgramsΒ 

  • TheΒ development, implementation and direction of the facility's Occupational Health and SafetyΒ Program andΒ will continually strive to support the company's goals to provide a safe and healthy workplaceΒ toΒ allΒ employees.Β 
  • AssistΒ unit management in the development and implementation of the H&S Improvement PlanΒ objectives,Β identifyingΒ improvementΒ areasΒ and developing associated action plans.Β 
  • DetermineΒ through needs-analysis the requirements and priorities for safe work processes in maintenance and operational functions with a focus on high-risk tasks.Β 
  • Support site management toΒ facilitateΒ the early and safe return to work for employees who are injured or become ill at work.Β 

Safety PerformanceΒ 

  • Provide analysis and interpretation of health and safety metrics and key performance indicators.Β 
  • Provide H&S statistical information and key indicators in a meaningful format for business units and management teams to support effective decision-making.Β 
  • Works to ensure compliance with all applicable legislation and fulfillment of contractual environmental, health and safety requirements.Β 

TrainingΒ andΒ CoachingΒ 

  • ProvideΒ on-goingΒ coaching to management teams on their responsibilities with respect to applicable legislative and corporate health & safetyΒ requirements andΒ provide assistance toΒ develop solutions to achieve complianceΒ toΒ those requirements.Β 
  • Develop and deliver health & safety training modules and programs reflective of applicable legislative requirements and corporate health & safety policies,Β procedures,Β and practices.Β 
  • Facilitate various training programs including, but not limited to, orientation, mobile equipment, crane, material handling, workplace specific hazardous material information systems, as well as several others asΒ required.

InvestigationsΒ 

  • Facilitate andΒ participateΒ in incident/accident investigations and risk assessments.Β 
  • Develop corrective actions and follow up on actions to ensure compliance and root-cause analyses are completed according to incident type and risk.Β 
  • Assertively manage post-incident matters including incident reporting, post incident action items, Worker's Compensation claims and Early and Safe Return to Work initiatives.Β 

AuditsΒ 

  • AssistΒ units in preparation for periodic health & safety audits,Β monitorΒ status of actions to address audit recommendations to ensure actions are completed on time, andΒ provide assistance toΒ identifyΒ and remove barriers to completion.Β 
  • Participate and lead periodic group health & safety audits to assess diverse business units' level of implementation of LH HSMS.Β 
  • IdentifyΒ best practices that could support ECAN health and safetyΒ evolution.Β 

Safety SystemsΒ 

  • Actively work to develop orΒ identifyΒ systems,Β programs,Β and training needs, and ensure these solutions are implemented and aligned with HSMS requirements.Β 
  • Participate andΒ assistΒ in the development and sourcing of new health & safety products ensuring product effectiveness, consistency, and financial prudence.Β 

What Makes You Stand Out:

  • Level 2 or Level 3 First Aid Certificate.Β Β 
  • 5-10Β yearsΒ progressive health and safety experience including managing staff.Β 
  • Valid driver's license is considered an asset.Β 
  • AssociateΒ degreeΒ orΒ a DiplomaΒ in Occupational Health and Safety isΒ required.Β 
  • MustΒ be comfortable travelling.Β 
  • Proficient knowledge of health and safety regulations and laws.Β 
  • Professional Designation such as Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), Registered Occupational Hygienist (ROH), or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) is considered an assetΒ
