Para Professional of Automotive Technologies

Requirements:

Qualification requirements which the Para Professional must possess:

1. Education and/or certification:
   1. high school graduate
   2. one or more Michigan or National Auto Mechanics Certifications
2. Experience:

two years in appropriate industry and/or recognized training program from a secondary or post-secondary institution

Essential Functions:

1. Mental Tasks:
   1. Ability to understand written and oral instructions.
   2. Ability to demonstrate appropriate verbal/written communication in the supervision and teaching of students.
   3. Ability to learn new technology as it relates to automotive/diesel technology.
   4. Ability to extrapolate information from automotive/diesel repair manuals and computer programs, and explain it to students.
   5. Ability to take direction from the professional.
   6. Ability to successfully do presentations to students.
2. Physical Tasks:
   1. Ability to drive a vehicle, and load/unload vehicles in need of repair.
   2. Ability to drive and operate a forklift.
   3. Ability to bend, stoop, squat, and kneel in performing automotive/diesel repair work.
   4. Ability to lift and move objects of at least 50 lbs. (i.e., tires, batteries, tools, etc.).
   5. Ability to assist students with automotive/diesel related skills.
3. Equipment:
   1. Ability to utilize office and classroom equipment such as telephones, computers, printers, copiers, VCR's, calculators, and other basic classroom and school equipment.

Ability to utilize automotive/diesel related equipment such as diagnostic scopes, hoists, welders, auto/diesel repair tools, etc.

5. No extensions on allotted breaks or lunch times.
6. Remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District.

7. Demonstrate acceptable ethical standards of the position.

    5. Meet specific performance objectives developed jointly with immediate supervisor. 

       Duties:

    6. Prepare equipment, material, and supplies for student learning.

    7. Assist Program Manager with attendance.

    8. Assist Program Manager with demonstrations in the classroom and in laboratory.

    9. Assist or direct housekeeping assignments for students.

    10. Assist Program Manager with student discipline.

    11. Enforce safety rules and regulations.

    12. Help maintain Inventory of supplies.

    13. Assist Program Manager with grading and student progress.

    14. Assist Program Manager with upgrading curriculum and scheduling work.

    15. Assist Program Manager with maintaining equipment.

    16. Assist Program Manager in processing work orders and dealing with customers.

    17. Assist with the implementation of students' individualized education and health care plans.

    18. Fabrication of training materials.

Other duties as assigned.
